Default Transmission Help needed

I recently purchased a 03 with 57k miles. The car is in great condition inside and out with a clean history report, days after I got it I noticed a chatter when the clutch is not engaged that goes away when the clutch is pressed.

Also there is a whine noise that occurs when I accelerate and decelerate. Either of these do not seem to have a affect on the drivablity of the car or its perfromance that I notice. It does not slip and I do not have any grind issues.

I have read so many threads on here over the last week or so about or closely related to some of these issues but I have yet to get a clear understanding of this.

I wanted to start a thread that explains my exact probelm and maybe someone could give me a better ideal of what this could be.

Thanks

I own a 04.5 350z 6MT and my clutch makes the same noise as well when the clutch is NOT depressed. To me it doesn't bother me since it doesn't affect the drive ability of it. I dont experience any whining noises though on Accel or Decel. Since you recently purchased your Z, be sure to replace all the fluids but since your experiencing a whine be sure to change the Manual tranny oil with Nissan OEM 75w-85 GL4 (3.3Qts). Also be sure to measure how much is drained out of the tranny that way you can see if it was low on tranny fluid or not. I wouldn't worry about the clutch noise though when it isn't pressed in, dont think it's harming anything.

You're hearing the internals of the gearbox spinning when the clutch is engaged. Normal.

Since the car is new to you, it's a good idea to change all the fluids. Engine, gearbox, differential.

same thing happened to me, the chatter that you hear means the throw bearing is on its way out on the clutch. slowly it got worse and my clutch ended up wearing out completely. Drive it nice and you will still get quite some mileage out of it. no more doughnuts or anything to wear out the clutch. I ended up replacing mine with an ACT street performance clutch and light weight flywheel.

the lightweight flywheel also causes this faint chattter sound but that is normal for an aftermarket lightweight flywheel

I'm calling BS on that one - sorry. So what you're saying is that now there is no gearbox noise with the clutch pedal released, since your TOB has been replaced?
