Default What Kind Of OIL Do You Use

It's getting close to my first oil change. I have a 07 Roadster and am wondering whether to use Mobile1 5W-30 organic or synthetic oil. Do you use Nissan filters?
Thanks,
Rob Gibbs

Hey Robb,

You can't go wrong with either Castrol, Mobil1, or Amsoil full synthetic. The vq35hr likes those oils;
as far as filter you can either go with mobil 1 or purolator gold

Personally I've been using mobl 1 filters and Amsoil 5w30 oil.

as an auto tech i've tried out many diff oils on all of my vehicles. What i have come to find is that the EURO oil ELF/TOTAL synthetics are the best thus far.

Mobil 1 when you beat up any car will give you that burning oil smell.

as far as a filter for the Z i switch off depending on my moods. Either the OEM direct mani one, or the K&N filter from the Zone. Makes no real difference i suppose.\

on Nissans, i have also come to find out that idiots who start to put thinner/heavier oils will eventually get the timing chain rattle noise on start up. Because of the fact that the Tensioner is hydrolic and runs off oil psi. So 5w-30 is the BEST weight here in NJ at the least. my 2003 Performance has no issues with that, however all my customers, and friends have that issue.

I may be one of the older forum members.I'm reading, using this "brand" oil for
20-25k miles etc.All I can offer is my experience.Real numbers, not what you read
or a "buddy said...".I've had many vehicles that I've driven 200-300 miles.Pretty
much trouble free when it comes to oil issues.I'm talking foreign and domestic
vehicles.In each I've used a synthetic blend.Most times Valvolene.Unless you
buy the car new,use full synthetic,on going,its Ok.You buy a pre owned Z,
the common thing that new Z owner does is put in Mobil 1 or some boutique oil.
This may work.Long term, your car gets to 125-150k,the odds may be against you.But hey,you change cars often, who cares?I tend to keep mine.
On ,my 03 Touring(which I bought new)I've always used a OEM filter.Oil changes
about every 5k.At 90k miles,perfect oil pressure,uses maybe a half a qt between
oil changes.Always 5w30 year around.

Mobil 1 full synthetic with either bosch or mobil 1 filters. I've use this oil in my '11 370, my old 350z, and my '99 Accord with 125k miles. All cars are happy campers.

Hearsay means nothing. Actual data can be found here:
https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...-and-info.html

From that data and multiple samples of my own. I'm sticking with Castrol GTX 5W-30.

Tuner recommended Mobile 1 synthetic 0w40

Says on the back "Meets or exceeds qualifications for GTR".

Wait a second, are you saying that you've blown 2 engines and you think mobil 1 might be why?

no, i dont think mobil1 is the main cause. but i do believe from what ive read is there are more deposits left in mobil1 from oil analysis. and engine wear was the cause of my 2 blown engines. so im just switching for that reason only

edit: i believe my main problem is how hard i am on the engine. i am just trying to switch to a better oil than the mobil1

i cannot be the only person who has used mobil 1, and after really working the Z smelled that burning oil smell. I am sure most if not ALL have that same smell.

Mobil 1 to me does not last as long as other brands. Specially if your a "moron" kinda person who goes much LONGER than 3-5 k over. (although synthetic is rated for up to 5 k use w/ 5 qts)

Personal experience, not only on my Z, but on my Evo, and my Jeep. Mobil 1 just burns and yes leaves more deposits in the motor/valve area as well.

I only now use ELF/TOTAL on my cars, and my Bikes. Not 1 issue from using them, and i've also turned customer over to using it as well and they are very happy.

BUT, as long as you just use 5w30 instead of 0w's and higher ups you should be fine.

putting to much research into a damn car that requires 5w30 known oil is super ****.....if ya ask me.

specially those people who spend arms, and legs for them HIGH END oils that pretty much dont do anything better than a cam 2 oil...

well i used to pick it up direct from total, but now adays they have a new company who has taken over the distributions for them. "Jay Gress" is the new co....but i know for a fact if you have a Locol Auto Part International near you they also can get it as well. Just have to do some digging.
