Default Transmission Problem

Hey guys just yesterday i had a brand new clutch (Exedy Pro Kit) put into the car its a 03 350Z with a JWT Flywheel. When i got it back everything worked fine smooth ride but i never bothered to try 5th and 6th gear until the following day headed to work on the highway i realized it doesn't go into gear. It will not go into 5th or 6th gear regardless of whether the car is on or not. However, the Reverse gear works just fine. I will be taking the car back to the place next week (Due to work). Any ideas why this is happening? any input would be greatly appreciated. And should the shop be liable for this?

Sounds like a tranny/synchro issue.

Kevin, most likely 5/6 gear guide plate needs adjustment. Down under the shift boot there is a tab that will hit this plate when you shift the lever to the extreme right position. This prevents an accidental shift into reverse. (When you push down on the lever, the tab drops under the plate allowing access to reverse.) In normal shifting the tab is guided along this plate creating a smooth guide from 5th to 6th gear. If this is the problem, it is a simple job to realign the plate over a smidge to the right. Instructions for this are in the factory service manual, which can be downloaded for free from several places on the net. Google for a list.

Jennifer, i have been looking up on what you said and it seems to be the exact same problem. I did not find how to do so on the service manual but it sounds easy enough to do without it. I will try and fix it myself tomorrow morning. Thank you very much for your help. Greatly appreciated, good to know there is knowledgeable people on here.
