Okay, thanks for the tips. I'll look at JWT instead of Exedy. My car is currently pretty much stock as far as power goes right now (unless K&M does anything power-wise haha) but I may look at boost or other performance mods in the near future, once I recover from this $$ shock. The guys are currently charging $670 for the labor for clutch and flywheel replacement, including the diagnostic work they've already done (which included moving the tranny.)

HK350Z, I do have a 2008 roadster. I'm a total dummy when it comes to things like this though, and have almost no understanding of the parts that comprise clutches and flywheels, so I'm not sure how to further respond to your question.

As an aside, I'll obviously look into Googling these parts, and I'm assuming I need a "clutch kit" and aftermarket flywheel. They said they can't tell if the "slave cylinder" needs to be replaced currently, and will only be able to tell once they've got the rest of it working. That said, the OEM slave cylinder was only $120, so I may just let them replace it OEM if it's needed. Does anyone have a particularly good vendor they know of for these kinds of parts?

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate the input!

since it is all going to be apart, if it was me and if you can afford to, replace the slave with the zspeed one. just trying to save you some troubles later on, the oem are cheap plastic vs the aluminum of the zspeed

Thanks guys. So they're having me do all the parts shopping, and telling me I'm making a big mistake buying aftermarket. Given that they were marking up all their OEM parts though, I'm not considering their advice to be impartial, and more based on maximizing their profits. McCarther, do you know if JWT makes the clutch/flywheel combo for 07-08's? Mine is a 2008, and most of the ones I'm finding anywhere are for 2002-2006 models. Travlee, also not having any luck finding the slave you're talking about, do you have any idea where I might get one? I'm failing at Google

Here is the Zspeed slave cylinder. On the same site you can also find the OEM part for comparison. The quality is clearly much better in the Zspeed heavy duty part. The price is also higher, but in the long run it may be the most economical option.

Thanks guys... decided that I'm gonna support local, as I got a pretty good deal on Exedy combo, $750 shipped and expedited to get here tomorrow, and the guy is gonna deliver it to the scammers who have my transmission out on the floor right now, making a move on it impractical. Decided the added convenience and speed was worth it, as I need to get mobile again. I hope I don't kick myself over not getting JWT though, the guy even admitted that he thought it was a good kit, but they're not JWT dealers

Yeah, that was definitely a great deal travlee, and I was quite tempted. Unfortunately, my job requires a 60 mile commute which has been terribly unpleasant while my car is out of commission (busses and a local train) so time is definitely of the essence as well. Hopefully I'll be decently satisfied with the Exedy. Regardless, if it keeps me on the road for another year or two even, I'll be in better financial straights to deal with this later .. appreciate all the help and advice guys! The mechanics who are fixing the car scared me about aftermarket, but I think they have a bit of a bias there, since they'd be making money taxing me on the OEM parts.

I would be worried about them doing the install. They may have never seen a non-OEM part before which is another reason they warn against it.

We got you, sounds like your on the right road now.You will DEFINTELY have to upgrade the slave with Zspeed, the combo will run you about 500 with the Master. The stock is a POS and Nissan recommends you replace the csc everytime you put in a new clutch.

Replaced my clutch at a Nissan Dealer in 2008 with 60k miles.. the cost was $1,600 for the Clutch and the Flywheel was covered under warranty.

100k miles later and its slightly beginning to slip. Brought mine to AAMCO and they quoted me $2,400 for Clutch + Flywheel all together. However, the guy said he would order a single flywheel instead of the dual? The total cost is $2,000.

These things arent cheap.

Just a warning you WILL be doing this job twice if you don't replace the CSC with the Zspeed heavy duty one and the wildwood clutch master. The oem csc will not hold the increased line pressure of a aftermarket clutch.

I know my car, a drift car, and many others who track their cars with aftermarket clutches with no problems with original everything. No problems? First I've heard of this. I doubt he will need to do this twice on an otherwise stock street 350z.
