I noticed this problem when working on my car today, had to remove the door panel to reset the window motor, don't know if it was doing this before I removed the door panel and I'm almost 100% that everything went back in how it was supposed to

if anyone has any idea as to why this is happening I'd really appreciate the help, I tried looking up the problem but can't really find anything about it

ps. by half opening I mean the door stays locked but it opens enough to trigger the window

 

It sounds like the latch mechanism inside the door, or the striker plate on the door frame is loose. As you know, all car doors have a two stage latching device and if one of these two things are loose, only the first stage of the latch will engage leaving the door, as you said, half closed.
