Bad Computer
I currently have an automatic 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring edition. I need to replace the computer (ECM) for the car. I was wondering if anyone could possible tell me the correct model serial number so I know to buy the right replacement. I also need any links for replacements and how much its going to cost me to buy & replace it?
CODE: U1000
CODE: U1000

hello there, the problems with the ECU on 350z is it varies by transmission and model(track, touring, base, etc) and by year for it to be compatible. when you take it out you will see some "part number" for it, and to find a ECU that matches those numbers for sale is quite difficult actually. From what I found on that code you gave, seems that the ECU is detecting a bad ground, go to the FSM under the ECM section and search for all the grounds on the wiring harness that are all over the car, and make sure you got a great connection. I saw that you posted that your car shaked a lot at idle, just change your spark plug and see if that actually clears the U1000 code too, who knows. Car shaking can be a bad coil or bad spark plug, in with other numerous things.

The part that is scaring me now is the second code he brought up with the transmission. Since my car is a automatic it can also be used in manual if I'm not mistaken. I drive a 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring 5 Speed Automatic with 131,000 miles bought at 5,000 cash.
He is saying that liquid might of spilled into it. The thing to switch the car from drive to reverse..etc. Hopefully its just that & he can fix it. He said if its something more serious then I might have to pay a lot more to get that part fixed & functioning. He said I don't have to change it right away but I think I will depending on how serious the situation is. I just want everything to run smooth on the car so it can last me for about 2-3 years if it blessed to be running that long. I don't plan on driving the car hard at all.
But he said that transmission problem & a coil has to be changed. He gave me a ruff estimate of 500-600 dollars for the coil replacement, spark plugs, full tune up and everything. I don't know if thats a good price or not but he said he will take care of me.
One good news is I don't have to replace the entire computer which people were telling me might run me $1000+. But at this point I don't know for sure if i might have to do that. I will update you guys after the tune up. He said about 7 hour job. But I told him to take his time I'm not in any kind of rush. I even told him to change anything from the smallest screw to major problems. But he said he will call me first if anything else need to be changed.
Everybody is telling me I got a good deal, but since I'm very new to cars in fact this is my first vehicle. I feel like I suckered into the deal. But they are saying i didn't. I just have to see how much everything comes up to after the car is running better...
