Default Bad steering angle sensor

My steering angle sensor has been bad ever since i bought my 03 Z track edition and haven't noticed any negative effects from it other than my traction control and differential light stay on on the dash. Is it even worth replacing with them costing anywhere from $600-$800? Or does anyone know if i can just rebuild or fix it without buying a new one? I appreciate any feedback

Is it a bad sensor or did someone pull the steering wheel at some point and fail to have it re-programmed? If that's the case, you need to take it to a dealership and have a tech hook it up to a CONSULT computer and re-zero it.

i work at carmax and had them do any alignment on it and the tech that did it also tried to reset sensor but said the sensor was bad. That was after him plugging the snapon diagnostic to it and said the sensor was bad.

is pulling the steering wheel the only way to cause it to need to be re-programmed? It only had 33K miles when i purchased it so I'm wondering why the sensor is bad even tho it is 13 years old

Well, if someone wanted to do work on a clock spring or needed to change out the control switches, they'd have to pull the wheel. If you don't re-attach the wheel just right, then the sensor's going to think the car is pulling while going straight and it's going to mess with your traction control and ABS.

I won't vouch for the Snap-On's ability to see a failed sensor, but those things are generally stout. If nobody's pulled the wheel, then it could be a failed sensor. Regardless, if you get it replaced, buy an OEM part and have someone re-program it using a Nissan CONSULT.

Yeah i figured i just need to replace the sensor but considering the cost and not having any bad effects from it since the time i've had the car, i just wanted to see if there was a way around replacing it altogether. Definitely gonna use OEM tho, i appreciate the feedback zakmartin!
