Default Burning smell? And passenger door won't lock

Today was my first day driving my 07 350z auto, with 95k miles. Since this was my first day I took it a lil easy but when it was open I would press the gas just a little bit more while in the semiauto mode. When I did this a pretty bad burning smell appeared and didn't go away for a few minutes. I check the oil level and its normal. What could be the problem?

Also, the passenger door lock seems to be jammed, it won't lock all the way and you can still open it from the outside. Any suggestions on that? Thanks!

What sort of burning smell is it emitting? Oil? Burning brake shoes? wheel bearings when shot and the car given a good fast run also emit a smell, just go round each hub and see if you can feel heat.
Re our passenger door lock, have you checked the mechanism, something may have detached itself.
