I see another trend, and another trip to the dealer for service. I live in a somewhat warmer climate and the hatch fails to open 90% of the time on the first try.

on one hand i am glad that I reopened this thread because there are obviously a bunch of people that have this problem and info needs to be shared on how to try and fix this. But on the other hand this is starting to scare me a little because this is looking like another issue with this car that doesnt seem to have a fix. Whats next? Wheels falling off at highway speeds cause of faulty lug nuts. Jeez.

Mine never has worked year-round. I have taken in several times, still doesn't work. I think the rattle in the rear of car is related to this problem. That is, I think the hatch mechanism rattles - I don't know that for a fact.

Brown's Sterling. They are behind CarMax off Rt 28.

I heard that there are some stoppers under hatch that you could twist to adjust and align to raise hatch. I have that problem too going to try.

I have the same problem and I think it's related to temp. It opens most of the time in warmer weather, but when it's really cold out, most of the time it doesn't open. My car is going into the dealer tomorrow for transmission issues, I guess since it's there anyway I'll mention it, though it is now warmer here. It probably will work just fine, but at least I can get the paper trail rolling.

My Z really is a love/hate relationship.

Well, I second the temperature theory. It has gotten considerably warmer here in the last few days and it opens every time.

There's a suspension weight on the center of the rear hatch. The purpose of it is to help the trunk close / lock easier. To access it, you need to remove the plastic panel, which has numerous plastic fasteners that require some persuasion.

Angry Latch is a pain in the a$$

I have the same problem since we bought the car. The dealer is calling Nissan on tuesday about replacing my front tires. The alignment was corrected per the TSB and now I am back again with the same issue. I will show them the latch release problem then. Is there a preferred fix for this issue?

Thumbs up 4 Cent Fix!

This link below is an older post...however, I did this 4 cent fix back in June and my hatch releases everytime, first time.

Yes temperature does come into play.

You might contact the original poster and see if he can repost the pictures. It is really, really easy!!!!

I had the same issue in warm climate... Had me insane trying to figure out- Finally found it to be the rubber bumpers sticking to the body at the contact points-- Cleaned them well and waxed them too - never sticks now and never fails to open cleanly. Go figure - cheaper than 4 cents! :-)
