Default Knocking Rear Wheels

Last year when I bought the car, the hand brake was barely working. A few days ago I looked up how to fix it and learned that you could tighten the hand brake by removing the coin holder and tightening a nut. I went around my neighborhood and attempted to stop while going slow using the handbrake. I kept trying to adjust the nut while intermediately testing it, until one time a thumping developed. Now whenever I slow accelerate there is a faint thumping sound, and on deceleration the thumping sound is much louder. The sound gets faster and louder with higher speeds. I checked the hand brake cable today, and it seems to still be pulling on the drum brakes fine. I could only get one of the calipers off to check, as the other was rusted on pretty damn tight. I'm assuming it's something to do with the emergency brake system but I don't even know what components could have gotten screwed up.
