Default Touch up Paint tips?

A rock just scarred my drivers side door pretty bad. It's about half an inch long right in the middle of the door. It sticks out like a sore thumb against my black paint. I was going to go pick up some touch up paint from the dealership, but I've heard the stuff is kinda nasty sometimes. Any tips? Thanks!

prepping the area is the most important. Wash with soap and water then use a little bit of rubbing alcohol to prep. Let it dry, apply touch up paint
