DVD != movies!
DVD = Digital Versatile Disc, a medium for storing data. One type of data is movies.
Nissan has said "DVD Navigation System" This is to tell us all that there is 4.7GB of storage besides the crappy CD Navigation System capacity of 700MB.
False advertising? Not a chance.

it is illegal to have a tv other than nav in front of the drivers seat. even the nav cant be used unless your like parked with the brake on...
now what you do aftermarket is a different story. and those TVs in the back of vans are ok since their behind the driver. but nissan could never offer such a thing from the factory.

My point is that it ISN'T false advertising. It ISN'T crap. It is unbelievable how many people band together on misconception and misunderstanding... that's all.

I used to test cell towers and had a DeLorme GPS unit plugged into a laptop sitting on a cradle over the passenger seat running Street Atlas to aid in getting onto the right sector of the tower. I have been stopped/asked what I was doing by over 100 cops in PA and OH. None of them ever mentioned that the GPS was illegal in front of the driver. Also, it wasn't because I was testing at the time either. Sometimes I wasn't testing, just using the GPS or watching a movie. Don't know where you got your info but I never had a problem in these two states. Maybe it's just where you live.

Usually I would only have a few movies which I owned and watched on a number of previous occasions. I would simply listen to them and glance over periodically. 90% of the time the GPS was on because locating sectors on towers can be tricky in and around Pittsburgh.
I found that having GPS on and trying to get on a sectored site was more difficult than driving, juggling, brushing my teeth, and talking on a phone at the same time. You have to make sure that a call is connected to the test number, monitor the connection between the phone and laptop, monitor which sector of which site you are on, monitor where you are in relation to the tower, and then drive a little. I'm surprised I never wrecked, but that's how your cell provider tests their network, everyday.
BTW - It's extremely dangerous, but effective. It allows you to have such great cell phone coverage while driving.......................

I think the DVD only works for their DVD map disc, right?
I've a question. Does Nav. owners have to pay monthly fee for the GPS service?

We will have occasions to buy updated CD's that reflect construction and other changes every year or so to keep it updated, however.
I heard from my Nissan salemen that yes, you could mod it to play DVDs and even then mod it more to pick up network TV, although both were illegal and not recommended.
He had heard, in fact, from one of the folks he sold a Z to (who had modded it to pick up network TV) had been pulled over and fined $1700 for watching a baseball game. This was in So. Cal.
Cop must not have been an Angels fan. =)
As for me, I ain't touching it. I love the Z car seats, but I'd much rather sit on my La-Z-Boy reclining sofa and watch movies than in my car and I'm certainly not gonna watch a movie or TV while driving, so who cares?
Books on CD with a 6 cd player is moooore than enough entertainment for a long trip. =)

So, having a front TV/DVD playing is illegal for very sure?

In most states its is illegal...there's a fine line between nav vs. dvd movies...they both distract you..just tint the windows and get the set/up...I did and I love it! Nav-tv.com is a great place to get the info..
