Default Sold the Z and got a VW

I'm having a baby and a 2 seater just wasn't going to work for me so I had to give it up. I thought about a g35 but the coupe are way overpriced. So I bought an 03 Passat, and although it isnt fast it is a lot cheaper and looks nice. It has a 1.8T so I can still have a little fun with it. I just got suspension, wheels+tires, audio system, phatnoise music keg, and a few other minor things.

LOL, I'm the exact opposite of you:
I broke up with my fiancee (she had two kids I had to cart around), sold my VW Golf, and bought a Z.

I didn't even bother to look at a new VW because of the horrible quality problems they have been haveing for almost the last 10 years. Not to mention the fact that the sales people at the local VW dealership were total ****** everytime I went to the dealership to get parts.

One jerk actually told me to move my car from customer parking because I wasn't buying a car. I think he said something like, "Hey, you need to park your car in back by the parts department that space is for customers." I naturally told him to go f*ck himself and explained to him in no uncertain terms that I would never buy a car from someone that had sexual intercourse with his own mother and who in fact had been born through the union of a horse and its azz. By the look of shock and fear on his face as he slowly backed away, I'm guessing he didn't expect that reaction.

yes good luck with it. I couldn't stand my GTI for more than 6 months before trading it.
I recommend not modifying that thing at all. I assume they "can" be modified without problems, but any little thing I did to the GTI caused it to not start or F something up.
Keep it stock and you might not have problems.

Congrats on the vw. I had an 03 GTI 1.8T, and that car was fun. It has about as many features as my Touring Z if not more, and it was QUICK. It did have a few problems like rattles and stuff, but it was an overall good car. Enjoy the Passat.

The good thing about the passat is its built on the audi A4 chassis so it doesn't have near as many problems as the golf/jetta. I agree, most vw dealerships are very shady and dishonest. The one I went to was trying to low ball me because they couldn't sell the Z on thier lot. One week later they were selling my car for retail.

I'm going to keep it mostly stock but I will need a few goodies. Probably a chip, turbo back exhaust, blow off valve, and maybe a front mount.

I heard a chip programmed to German specs will be the best bang for the buck. Good luck.

I don't know. There is a healthy, mature mod scene for the VW's. A lot of people love them, I just couldn't stand another thing falling off every week.

Hey Donkeypuncher, check out www.vwvortex.com. They have some great forums for VWs and also have great articles and reviews.

Well I got the Passat, then the Z. I have the best of both worlds. Forgot the Toyota Pickup as well. I buy them and then I can't part with them so I just keep them.

nice choice for a family car. I had a GTI before i bought my Z. Mine was a VR6 though, i sold it to a friend of mine, and about a month ago he just started having bad luck with it.. Hit a possum with it and ripped the front end off, put the stock bumper on till the insurance claim went through, then nailed a deer. I feel bad for him, and the car, cause i put alot of work into it, but on a good note, hes givin me the insurance check, im fixin it and keepin whatever $$ is left..

I wish I could have kept the Z! That was the nicest car I have ever owned. Service and problems were pretty bad (new trans. and other parts) but it was worth the trouble just to have that car. I know the VW's have had problems, but the Z gave me more in the first 3 months than any of the 3 Passats I ever owned. I will still own a Z again in the future for sure.
