the car really does have a timeless, clean design to it from the factory. I think the problem is that the kit tries too hard. It's got lots of angular lines, where the stock body really has no angles going to it at all. The boxiness would work on an E30 (ala the original M3), and would even sorta work on an E36, but it just looks tacked onto an E46. Wheel fitment aside, it's very reminiscent of those Erebuni kits from the early 90's that tried placing Testarossa vents on an accord coupe- it just has no flow to it at all.
I know they wanted something different looking, but to date the nicest widebody I've seen on an E46 was this

To me, widebodies are really tough to pull off and have it still look respectable. To me, the above kit, which was done by Acevedo Motorsports in NJ according to some 'net articles, seems to just nail it. I've seen the car in person at a few events, and it appeared to be very carefully constructed and very nicely executed. Only thing I personally don't like on it is the hood (just because I seem to see that same design hood on a ton of M cars) and the lambo doors (but, it's a show car, so I can't fault it too much). Even the DTM type spoiler, which isn't my personal thing, still just works IMHO. I'd also paint the whole car and ditch the outer exposed carbon (I'd leave the underside carbon, assuming it was carbon/carbon), but that's really just a personal opinion thing

I can see what your saying about the "box" look especially to the rear quarter panels, but there are 4-5 kits who already have the roun over fendes look. Asuka took on the challenge of building a new kit, ulike anything the euro market has seen before, and I tink they did a god job of it.
It did take home best car at Mfest, and we all now how huge Mfest is.
