Was his a red Z? One of my friend's has a red Z with the Amuse kit with black vents and it looks really nice... then again, it is black, so it helps accent the vents/front diffuser and not draw attention to them. I think that is really what I'm getting at when I'm saying the gold will "stick out" too much.
yes. Andy has a red Z now (repainted i think) but back in the day it was the one pictured above this post. Notice his vents are white. Now as unorthodox as this is, i think it looks good on his ride.

unfortunately he no longer has his Z, he sold it because he moved to NY
I think this works because the white vents match all the white decals on his ride.
Similarly I'm starting to think gold accents (think more matte Volk-gold, not shiney bling gold) would only work with similar gold decals like this chicks:
