Alright, well for anyone that still follows this build and isnt friends with me on any social media. this is going to be a bit of a heavy update hah.

So on October 5th I attended my first autocross race. Glad to say that I was able to learn alot about the car capabilities and limits. I started the day with constant 42 second lap times, and by the end of the day my fastest run was a 36.4. Which I was well happy with considering the average runs were high 38's and low 39's by the end of the day.
My times could have been alot faster though if I had an lsd . I could not accelerate through any of the turns, even when exiting turns as I was already at the cars limit, so any more gas would cause my epic 1 tire fire and end up costing me time. It was pretty ridiculous on how bad it was really.
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15394878220" title="niko8 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5613/15394878220_869499fb52_z.jpg" width="640" height="640" alt="niko8"></a>

Pic of my flipped tires getting thrashed
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/14960338663" title="niko9 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3954/14960338663_882014bf2b_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="niko9"></a>

Then the following weekend, I decided to say "Fugg it" and signed up for a track day to race Big Willow, at Willow Springs.
After the drivers meeting and hearing the safety instructor say "We have countless cars go off-track every weekend, and a minimum of 1 car totaled every weekend as well" it was safe to say I was pretty damn nervous hah but non-the less, determined.

Pic of the car all taped up (and still got some chips!!)

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15580479625" title="niko5 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3932/15580479625_4bbe747a8f_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="niko5"></a>

And a pic coming off from my first session

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15556802666" title="niko4 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3950/15556802666_acb6239091_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="niko4"></a>

First session when great (had a 50% cruise session prior to feel the track with other drivers being their first time on Big Willow also)
I was chasing my friend in his GTR for the most part of my first session, Id lose him on the straight and open turns but was on him through the top turns but eventually got stuck behind a subie that wouldn't let me pass

When the session was over, I exited the track with a weird sounding clunk, pretty light sounding for the most part. cruised it through the pits into my spot and shut the car off n just thought the car was hot and needed some cool down... 20 minutes later I started it back up. still there!...rev'd it a bit....... ROD KNOCK
Easy to say I was pretty furious.

Pic before the long tow home

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15394370658" title="niko6 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3952/15394370658_cf149ccda0_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="niko6"></a>

So now my build is happening alot faster than I planned!!!
luckily Drifting.com is sponsoring me and doing one of their engine build dvds on my car, and hopefully get some JE pistons through them.
I am in the midst of choosing a shop to do all the work.
Sams Auto Land offered their contracted machine shop to do it for me.
I was also referred to AQ motorsports as they rebuilt my friends car really well. And I also contacted Techno-square to see what they can do for me.

Internals wise I decided to go with full tomei parts. despite what I said previously. Luckily I ordered their con-rods a few weeks ago and they just arrived
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/14960338313" title="Niko1 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3946/14960338313_82513dd990_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="Niko1"></a>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15393868979" title="niko2 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5602/15393868979_144e5a58fe_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="niko2"></a>

And my cams should take another 3 weeks to arrive * Went with tomei 272 cams with 10.5 lift

Deciding to leave the valve train alone or not. but next to buy are the tomei springs and retainers, tomei bearing set, tomei head studs, new valve covers and oil pump and we will see what happens with the pistons.

Although eventually I do think I am going to go with the Jenevy ITB system. A bit out of my budget now. But I think once Im out of college I will be able to afford it.

For the car I decided to tackle some body work while I was at it.
I will chop up my current bumper and Aero Flow has agreed to make me a similar diffuser to this one.
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15556802766" title="niko7 by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3955/15556802766_d8681891fd_z.jpg" width="539" height="334" alt="niko7"></a>

My friend that is does the body work for LTMW is making carbon fenders and rear over fenders for 350Z's
Still debating on getting them since I would have to run an even bigger spacer since they would be 15mm wider than stock.

I also plan to get an extra set of fenders and attempt to cut-a-ways from the back side of the tire.

SkyPrint Media will also be wrapping half of my car livery style just so I dont get bored of it. But have a bit of time until I make a final design for myself.

BIG BIG things happening, but definitely not the fastest things happening

My rear bumper will be no more after tomorrow.
Bringing out the cutting wheel

Aiming for technosquare in Torrance to do the labor for the engine.
My sponsor sams auto land is literally 4 lights down from them. So Im calling Sam on Monday to see if he has any strings to pull for me over there.
Fingers crossed

How will you be mounting the bottom of the rear bumper once you cut it? Or will you just leave it hanging? Shouldn't be a problem with a diffuser but was just wondering.

Mounting the bottom? What do you mean by that?

And I wanted to make the template for the diffuser but I ran out of card board

^^^ The bottom of the rear bumper mounts at two points right behind the rear quarter panel wells, two 10mm bolts iirc. Other than that the only thing holding the bottom of the rear bumper in place is two weak plastic tabs underneath the license plate.

The plastic tabs broke for me awhile ago hah. so yeah. It will be held on by the silders, clips and few bolts all on the top side of the bumper. And the diffuser will be mounted to the frame with stay rods.

I planned to cut the bumper yesterday but ran out of time, taking alot longer to take off the rear bumper than I expected.

And now Sam (Sams Auto Land Sam) gave me his pass for SEMA. So Im scrambling to put together a nice proposal and a few renderings of my car, in hopes to get any help I can from some of the companies. So I dont want to kill myself cutting and templating the diffuser if there is no rush on it yet.
Plus I have mid-terms the same week of SEMA and Im trying to learn new 3d software.

More than likely some real progress will be shown after SEMA and mid-terms

Tomei Rods are in. Tomei 272 cams are in and Tomei springs and retainers came in as well.

The bumper is now cut.

And finalized my down payment for a custom side exit exhaust lol...thought it would be a little ridiculous )

ordering a 3rd brake light next week, and the diffuser will be cut/shaped to fit around it. should be tough but really pay off.

Pics will be posted ... eventually....

The 9K logo will not be there in the final livery
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/24890749@N04/15861579345" title="Niko livery by purpletiger77, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7562/15861579345_7f24377077_z.jpg" width="640" height="360" alt="Niko livery"></a>

And the diffuser will have smaller upward fins on each end. with the indent to fit the brake light in the center. so the center vortex fins maybe shifted slightly

Wild build bro. Glad to see it's not just a garage queen or show build and you're actually putting it on the track now. Too many built only for garage queen duty Z's out there.

Did you get to try out Streets of Willow too? Sometimes that track is more fun for beginners to the track.

The fact that it will still be my daily driver is like the complete opposite of garage queen lol Thanks

Havent done streets of willow yet. But plan it to be my first road course I do once the car is running.

I really suck at keeping up to date. anyways

Got a PPE Engineering sponsorship. thanks Paul! Black high temp ceramic long tube headers are now in the build.

Have been trying to find somebody to make me my custom chasis mount wing stands for a good price. But nobody does it in house. So my quotes are pretty retarded.

Also trying to figure out what I am going to do about the side exit exhaust.
Im getting a butterfly valve installed so that way I can run a muffler to slightly quite it for daily use. but it has to fit in the area infront of my diff.
But if I put the valve on the pipe for my side exit, I will still have run off going through the muffled section. So Im thinking I might have to run 2 separate valves in order to keep the flow of air true.

Also talking again with Howard from Technosquare later this month to figure out our plan for the build
