After being busted for the technicality between Techno and Trance I figured I'd do some research and spread the knowledge to the other 97.5% of the board who didn't pick up on the difference. To me they were synonymous for the most part, but not anymore:
Techno - From Wikipedia
Techno is a form of electronic music that emerged in the mid-1980s and primarily refers to a particular style developed in and around Detroit and subsequently adopted by European producers. "Techno" is also a informal and misleading term often used in North America, and perhaps elsewhere, to describe all forms of electronic dance music. <-- Forgive me.
Techno features an abundance of percussive, synthetic sounds, studio effects used as principal instrumentation, and a fast, regular 4/4 beat usually in the 130–140 bpm range. Some techno compositions have strong melodies and bass lines...
Trance - Same Source
Trance music is a subgenre of electronic dance music (EDM) that developed in the 1990s. Perhaps the most ambiguous genre in the realm of EDM, trance could be described as a melodic, more-or-less freeform style of music derived from a combination of techno and house.
Trance is said to have begun as an off-shoot of techno in German clubs during the very early 1990s.Frankfurt is often citen as a birthplace of trance. Notably pioneer trance labels like Eye Q, Harthouse, Superstition, Rising High, FAX +49-69/450464, MFS were Frankfurt based. Arguably a fusion of techno and house, early trance shared much with techno in terms of the tempo and rhythmic structures but also added more melodic overtones which were appropriated from the style of house popular in Europe's club scene at that time.
Trance is a form of music best characterized by quarter note drum patterns, and 16th/32nd note rhythm synthesizer patterns. It has a meter of 4/4, with a quarter note bassdrum acting as metronome, and quarter note high-hat hits on upbeats. This unwavering drum mechanism may be constantly tweaked with for effect, with the attack, decay, resonance, frequency, tone, delay, reverb all given liberal treatment. The tempo is generally around 130-152 beats per minute (bpm).
THE END
They still seem pretty similar to me. I'm sorry I misclassified DJ Tiesto. I'm sure he would blow my brains out had he read this post.

FYI:
"Most people probably don't know that DJ Tiesto used to play techno music as well a couple of years ago. Only recently he revealed in an intreview with Dutch magazine Bassic Groove that he would love to play a techno set at Awakenings."
Ooh... aah...
Ok, I'll stop the drama now. I still would love to see one of his shows (or any trance show for that matter), but I can't make Thursday. Wrapping up an engagement I'm workin on Friday... and my sister just had my first nephew this morning.

I'm glad this came up though, I feel more knowledgeable now. Useless knowledge, but any knowledge is good IMO.
I was going to go, but I hate FUR...it is going to be so damn packed, I will hold out for him to hit up an NYC or Miami club. I want to enjoy myself at the club, not get trampled. Enjoy the show...I hope he puts on a good one.
