MD.. no front plate ticket... "but.. my car is from VA"? WTF
So I was in Maryland over the weekend... and recieved a "No Front Plate" ticket... thing is.. my car is taged and registered in VA.
Its only a $60 ticket...
What I am wondering is if there is any legal presidence to fight this ticket?
I know some will say its not worth your time.. but.. its worth investigating IMHO.

i guess since it's illegal not to have plate on front in VA also.. so im guessing it's not worth fighting..

Mike, that sucks. Since when can a MD cop enforce VA law? It doesn't seem right.
hmm... i dunno. seems like they shouldn't ticket you if you are registered outside of the state; even if it is illegal in va. md police don't have jurisdiction in va. so they can ticket you for a va violation. and technically since you are not registered in md they can't ticket you for a md violation that results from a non-requirement in your state it would seem. would be the same as if someone drove through md with no plates and was registered in a state that didn't require them.
while i was in chicago i drove around for almost two years with an expired inspection sticker. didn't matter b.c illinois has no inspection requirement. same goes for expired city sticker... which i also had (okay don't ask
).
but here is the catch. you could probably have the ticket dismissed if you could prove the state you were registered in did not require you to have a front tag. but since va does require it they will probably not dismiss it b.c you can't prove you weren't required to have one in the state in which you are registered. either way i would think a good lawyer could get it dismissed. IMO the cop was just probably being an ***. he saw the car and figured he would just harass you.

but keep in mind if you drive by government buildings w/ no tags you are asking for it. most security personnel at federal buildings will probably hassle you for no front tags. happened to me a few years back in my suv when i was driving in the pentagon parking lot. cop was nice and said i could either put the front plate on and get no ticket or keep it off and get a ticket. so he let me borrow his swiss army knife thingamabob to put the front tag on. he also explained they were under strict orders to enforce tags given the whole 9/11 thing. but yeah.

Weren't we just discussing this on Fri. night while doing the photos. What a bunch of B.S. I would think it would violate interstate law giving a non moving violation to a vehicle not registered in that state. (I was studying law for a little bit in college, but Im no expert. lol). I would look into it, just because. Im with you man. But it still really blows.
Guess I should be careful venturing into VA to hang with you guys. lol Ehhh, who cares.
Might as well make them work rather that sit in their cars all the time eating. lol

Not meaning to pick a fight, but that logic is pretty flawed.
By extension, that would suggest anyone can go to another state (where they are not a resident) and commit any offense of that state's law. They'd then argue that state's cop had no jurisdiction over them, and that the cop did not have the authority to enforce the person's resident state law.

Lets say I am traveling thru 'the Peoples Replublc of Kalifornia'. They have very stringent laws on aftermarket parts. Lets say that some of my parts are not CARB certified. If I get pulled over in Cali. and the officer does an inspection... should he write a ticket for the non-Carb parts installed on my car, even though I do not reside in Cali? I'm just passing thru here...
