Lol, why 5th gear? Do you not not your own car and its shift points? Not trying to make you feel bad or anything, lol... just asking. Look in your owner's manual (or just experiment on the road) to see where each of your gears ends and where the next one starts so this won't happen again. For example, on a MT, 3rd gear ends at 85mph, so if I were "racing" this G6 from a 80mph roll I would start in 4th.

k. i gotta chime in too. i have an AT and i only drive it manual mode. maybe
it's been in automatic mode 10 times over the last year and half.

i never really drive in 5th on the highway unless i'm cruising. simply because
you get the least amount of acceleration in that gear. i suggest if you see a
car coming up that you think might pull some s*** downshift well in advance
to a gear appropriate for racing.

haha! sorry Karl that dead horse was looking so sexy there...
had to beat it a little more...

That's just it. I don't know my gears yet. You gotta understand, folks I graduated to the Z from a lamea55 2000 Cavalier (also AT) 7 weeks ago

I am going to take some time figuring it out. But anyone feel like chiming in on when to shift in each gear in terms of RPM please do so. I'd appreciate the help

what you gotta do is....

shift to the lowest gear possible... i just read from a post above that you can't blow your motor with rev limiter lol so you wanna go into first... it wont let you.... so you gotta turn off your car...yeah..turn off your car while going whatever speed you're going too lazy to go back and read... then when you turn it back on it'l let you go to 1st... then you just floor it. let it bounce off the rev limiter about 10 times in 1st.. it makes you that much faster. then just keep going thru all the gears. you should smoke him next time.

jk...dont do that. loooool

Not a problem. I knew when I made this thread that I was gonna get posts from folks whos are all too ready to swing the "I-know-more-than-you" bat. The bottomline is, I knew I was doing something wrong. And I wanted to know what that was. And folks have been kind enough to share info with me.

Much love

Try downshifting into 3rd next time (like was stated above) that'll get you some acceleration I believe 3rd gear tops out around 100mph too if I'm not mistaken.

Say your 2nd gear redlines at 70mph, if your going 50, that would be perfect for 2nd. Maybe even 60mph, as to not start low in 3rd gear. But if your 65+mph, you know you'll start slightly down in 3rd, it will be ok but not optimal. See what Im saying? You have to know your car...

Don't let Alberto get under your skin... He can't even keep his motor in one piece...

Besides once you go drinking with the Mid-A crew once it will be all sealed up...

It's no biggie. I'll buy monkey a drink after autoX in Aberdeen, if I can make it out there.
