Default HELP! just got a ticket and was planning on getting a Z soon!

Ok. So I was on my way to a funeral the other day when I was running late. I pulled on to a 2 lane highway when i get on the throttle. Sure enough about a mile down the road was a cop pulled in a parking lot where i couldnt see him. So he pulls me over and tells me i was doing 86 in a 55. He just gives me a speeding violation. This ticket is in Maryland.

My question is...what should i do!?
I have a clean record this is my first ticket.
I am 18 about to turn 19.

Im thinking about going to court and pleading guilty with an explanation.
Should i get a lawyer because i looked it up and its a possible 5 points and i was hoping to get a Z at the end of the summer.

any comments would be great.

It's a reckless driving ticket: 6 points on license and 11 years on your driving record. Reckless tickets are counted as criminal offenses so you might have a hard time with insurance and it could possibly affect employment. Your best bet is to get a lawyer to bump it down to regular speeding which is very possible since this is your first ticket. Make sure your lawyer costs at least $750-$1000 otherwise he sucks. Good luck!

If you have the option to pre-pay your ticket, you "should" be good. However anything above 20mph or speeds exceeding 80mph is considered reckless.

bro, just calm down. First of all, you were knew you were speeding so that's your fault. When you appear in court, the judge most likely will drop the speed down for you anyways which you will only get a ticket. Second, like i said in teh other thread, you can do a perferable(sp?) judgement and it wont' count as your first ticket. All of my friends did that and it didn't go on their insurance record(well probably did but didn't count or interfere). I yet to get a ticket so i'm not too sure about it. There is nothing you really do at this point but wait. Just don't speed next time.

86 in 55, that was my first ticket too when i was 16 but cop dropped it to 84 so it wouldnt be 5 points. i think 30 over is considered wreckless. but yea, def go to court and plead guilty, hopefully judge will reduce the fine and points or you may be lucky and the cop might not show

Are you still on the probationary drivers license ? Theres some law that if you get a moving violation within x amount of months in MD you have to goto driving school.

Just go to court, don't pay upfront mention that you have a clean record and blah blah. Try to get what I call a PBJ.. yes a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich! Probation before judgement, basically means if you don't get a ticket in a year, the ticket gets dropped.

GL with the insurance either way, ticket or not 18 + Z = $$$

Not in MD (unless you were doing something else besides just speeding)

Yea if it were VA they would actually take you away from your parents and you'd never see them again, sad face. Not to mention you'd have to pay rediculous fines.

Smart idea. You do not want to face a judge who has had a bad day without a lawyer.
