Default Soon to be Z owner, info??

What's up everybody. I just got back from my tech training with the Air Force and am looking to get a car. Right now I'm driving a 00 Audi A6 4.2. She's got a lot of miles on it, 142k and if something were to go wrong, I don't think I would want to dump the money into it.

So I want a Z.

I went out looking at cars today, and spotted an 03 Track edition. Took it for a test drive. Down Rt1 and then out on 95. I love it. I like the size, and the quickness. Now I just need a find a good deal on one.

I cant spend over 20, thats the limit. I am gonna go drive one out in Herndon next week. Until then I guess I will just hit up the local dealers. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've been mainly a Corvette guy since I've been driving, so this is a whole new ballgame for me. Thanks again!

Demand for the Track is high. Not sure if you can find one for $20,000. Maybe an Enthusiast. Best wishes shopping.

Welcome! I agree about that A6.

Personally, I would find an excellent (single owner) car and purchase through the owner. Many examples available, some will come with light mods if you wish. More car for the money.

Well save your money on the model..who cares, you know youre going to change all of it anyways. At the rate we blow up engines, change rims and tires...does it really matter?

I would find a "VERY" used one...and get a compresion test done on the car that your are seriously interested in to ensure its runs good...miles dont really matter too much...

If its high miles timing belt is like 350
Springs are like 100-200 bucks
Rim 1500-4K
power adders can range from 150 for a filter to 800 for headers..
Radio
Exhaust, etc

I own a G myself, but being AIC...
Option 1
buy a used one..get an extended warrantee if your are not going to add a bunch of mods...
Option 2
save the money at purchase, keep the payments low, then mod the heck out of it.

My two cents...ex-AF F-15 Crew Dawg!

I guess I worded that wrong. It doesn't have to be a track edition, thats just the one I test drove. I'm gonna go work out, then after I'm done I'll hit up some other places.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Oh and G-spot, I'm a Ground Radio troop

Get an enthusiast model and I would stay away from 03's or 04's unless it's an 04.5+, these cars have "feathering" issues in the earlier years. You want to avoid that issue as much as you can. Search: "Tire Feathering" and you'll get a ton of results.

+1 on Enthusiast!

Nothing wrong with having a Base Model I had an o5 base and
then traded it in for an 06 which now comes standard HIDs, Speed Sensitive steering and got a boot in HP. Keep an eye out on the 05 and below models as they have issues with tire feathering as stated above and or tranny problems! Good luck!!!!!!!!

If you were willing to spend a bit more, I know a guy thats got a smoking deal on a twin turbo, 03 Performance, for like 22k.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with the advice already laid out. Just find a good deal on an early 03, and start modding! Unless your the type that loves to keep cars stock, don't worry about all the extra stuff.

Oh, I don't plan on keeping it stock....

Looks like I'm biting on an 04 tomorrow. Found one at a Nissan dealer in Fairfax. 45k miles on it. After trade in getting it for 16, I'm happy with it. Now to look into this tire feathering...
