Default Headers

I will be ordering headers in a couple week and I will be thinking about having a couple friends and I installing it. Does anyone by chance have instructions or anyone installed it themselves? I was just wondering how long it was take without a lift and where exactly they are located on the Z. Any additional information will definately be helpful! Thanks guys!

Congratulations, you've picked the hardest bolt on to install.

Had my done today. Get ready for a lot of cussing and cuts. and without a lift, more cussing and cuts. Suggest you break down and have them installed.

I can do a set in a couple hours---Get Everything out of the way up top, Drop the shields, Drop the Cats or whatever. The right will drop out as a rule and the header will drop back. I break the steering knuckle loose and remove it on the left. Give your self leverage to R@R 02s. use a little antisieze on them and the header connectors. Re use the gaskets if they are visually fine---But best to get a set just in case. Hmmmmmmm...The more you get out of the way up top the easier the torque....work your way from center out to ends, going back and forth. If one is tough---torque it by feel. Seems like the rears are a pain.

Good luck

REMEMBER !!!! The extra time spent getting things out of the way pays off in time and cussing. It can make a difference between a kick back fun job and a Heart Attack. Get the tires off and the wheel wells

Dont try for 2 Hours --Iv had practice

BTW---'06s and up need clearence at the steering knuckle---this means careful grinding and testing with the car ON the ground---It may take a couple grinds before you get it right

I would not recommend doing the headers installation without a lift. I helped install mine, and even with a lift, it was a severe PITA.

Meh-save the $$$, time and cussing, headers gains are negligible on stock cam Z's IMO...

MAJOR PITA!!!!

It took me a day and a half to do this. I also had a lift. Of course that was the first time I did it on a Z blindly. If I do it again it will take me less time since I know what I need to remove now. What kind of headers are you installing?

BTW this are the item you have to remove to get to the headers ( not in order though):

Strut bar
intake
intake box
cat pipes (good time to get some TP)
coolant pipes running along side of the engine
ac compressor
steering shaft (just need to be moved out of the way on the bottom end)
and I am pretty sure there are a few other things that I can't think of.

Have fun and don't loose your temper.

I was just curious because I have been researching on these headers and I've been hearing different opinions about it.. Well, besides it taking more than 2 hours.. I'm definately expecting atleast a 6-8 hour job on this task but it was just out of curiousity. Thanks for replying

^ ohhhh it's that guy, I would bring it back to Function and let them throw it on for you. While you have them off, get some thermal coating or jethot coating on those babies.

on your own it's about a 6 hour job. At least that's how long my friend and I took to complete the project since it was our first time installing them. Plus I have a hard time fitting my hands and arms in the engine bay. Everything is so crammed.

I'm going twin turbo, possibly built engine as well. Procharger won't be able to put out 14 psi of boost.

So basically I'm the only one without twin turbo.
