You guys are way too young. What you call drifting and have made a "sport" of, we called "doing donuts".
I guess we old farts are too stupid to know that you're supposed to create a sport and get paid for having fun.

my impression of a donut was locking the wheel to one side, hitting the gas down to the floor and spinning on a point...
hes sliding around with the wheels pointed in the direction of his "drift" to keep it going, look like there is some sort of control at hand, and NOT just stay on one point.

"Drifting (ドリフト走行, dorifuto sōkō?) refers to a driving technique and to a motor sport involving the use of the technique of turning one's car sideways. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa), and the driver is controlling these factors. As a motor sport drifting is constantly gaining in popularity, now with professional competitions across the globe."
It's good to see that people can share different views on things, state their opinions, and not be at each others throats afterwards (as it happens so much here )
