MD vs AAM vs SKUNK2

also should i get 1/2 or 5/16?

i'm thinking AAM, need your inputs.

 

The thicker the better. So yea, go with AAM. Clearance issue is easy to fix. Just get some washers for the strut bar.

 

Justin (HKS-Z) has the aam and he loves it.

Not always, it depends on want you want.

Using a 5/16" spacer you will gain more usable HP in the mid-range, and using a 1/2" spacer you will gain more in the top-end.

 

from what understand, the difference in performance between the AAM and MD 5/16" is negligible! Now there are a couple guys that swear by MD 1/2", and it does provide really good performance increases, but there is the strut tower space issue; as ethan pointed this is correctable by some spacers, but beware of the strut tower brace pressing/hitting the hood, if you have a stock hood!

Its funny I talked to Dave over at Function: Tuned about this exact issue a while back...I would have to say give him a call and pick his brain for 10 minutes, he is wealth knowledge when it comes to stuff like this!

aam angled spacer is full of win.

 

AAM spacer I haven't heard the best reviews on. So I would scratch that off my list.

The Motordyne 5/16th has always set the standard for years, and the customer service from Tony at MD is the best.

The PowerLab Billet spacer is sapose to be badass, its the cheapest of the 3, however a few people have reported clearence issues, since it is a tad larger than the MD. Fit and finish is spot on, and for under 200 shipped, can't be beat.

The Skunk2 shouldn't even be on your list, I have heard it leaks and is way too big to be used with a strut bar.

I just bought a spacer myself and decided on Old Faithful. MD 5/16th for me.

 

i noted with the AAM i lost torque down low after the install. i haven't dynoed it but i noticed i have to kick it into 4th more often on hills. i like it and noticed the extra power but beware of loss of low end grunt. also dropped mpg by about 1 if that's a concern.

 

I had the AAM on my car for a while, and took it off. I immediately noticed a loss of power. A few days later, I put a MD 5/16 on, and noticed no difference. After that, I went back to the AAM and noticed an increase in power.

AAM is my choice, I have it on my car and love it.

 

There should be a link on the Motordyne site to a Plenum shootout done by Nissan Sport Magizine. AAM lost power over the majority of the RPM range, except way up high.

 

wow, AAM product is getting a good review on Mid-A forum... now that is a suprise.
I have AAM also on my G and I enjoy power gains from this product.

ive got the AAM spacer and noticed immediate torque difference and pedal feel. i had asked an employee there the day i got it installed if i was going to notice any difference at all (it being my first modification) and he said, "ohhhh yeah!" definitely felt a difference.

 

I got the AAM plenum spacer and its awesome. I feel mid-high end power and low end didnt change.




I dunno, it sure sounds like sarcasm.

 

Motordyne for this reason:
It has the small plastic spacers (left of center small round plastic parts) so you can fully tighten the center bolts. With other plenum spacers on the market these are not included and you will have vaccum leaks and I've seen plenty of plenums crack due to over tightening without those plastic spacers in place. Plus you get machined aluminuim spacers for the strut tower bar not a stack of washers.
