Default suggestions for removing gum from paint

Well it finally happened, someone decided to mess with the car ,

they put gum inside the key hole on the driver side, and around it on the paint...

it must have happened a couple of days ago as its hardened( I haven’t driven the car in a bit), and it’s really stuck on there..

just wondering if any of you guys knew of any products/ had any suggestions that would help get this off

thanks

Im surprised thats all they did, check ur tail pipe for bananas n such or nails position under the tire. Gum is no fun, it takes our digestive system 7 years to burn it out of our stomachs if we accidently swallowed it, I can't imagine what you could use to dissolve gum.. and if anything, what it would do to your paint! =X

Any petroleum based product should help. WD40 for example.

Peanut butter also contains oil.

+1 on peanut butter. use it to get hard grease off your hands and works perfectly. cant imagine it would ruin the paint. you could use gum and sticker remover, dont know how it would work with dried up gum.

After accidently breaking my 350Z emblem off the hatch, I used Goo Gone to remove the old adhesive and it didn't harm the paint. I assume if it works on glue, it could certainly remove some old gum...

The organic solvents suggested sound good. One thing not mentioned is ice. That's what you use to get it off fabric. It gets so hard you can just peal it off. Don't know if it will work on a car but it is amazing on fabric.

Sucks to hear about your car man.
I would suggest ice too. But the solvents a good one as well.
Good Luck.

Snopes FTW..

goo-gone FTW. wash and wax after since Goo-gone strips wax. Don't let the goo-gone sit for too long.

If Advanced Auto doesn't carry it, there's a Pep Boys in Laurel off of 198{?} that does. It's in a shopping plaza right next to Contee Road. That's where I bought mine!

I've dulled the finish on a car using goof off, If you are going to use it, rub very gently.

I think i would start with WD-40 and let that soak into the gum, peal as much of it off, then hit whats left with a clay bar while lubricating with quix detailer.

Yeah I had gotten some tar or something on the painted plastic trim of my first car ('93 camry) tried to take it off with some goof off. Rubbed on it and it came off, but also took the paint with it!

I wouldn't want to see the same thing happen to that vette, it is a plastic-fantastic sports car you know.

If I was the OP I would start with stuff that isn't very abrasive and work my way up to say something like Brake Kleener as a last resort
