Can NY even ticket her for a dead VA inspection? I would think only a VA cop could do that.

Hell just rip the inspection sticker off once it goes dead - out of state cops dont know how our inspection system works.

She is fine until she comes down here. They won't do anything about a VA registration in NY. When she decides to come back down to the area with her car that should be on her agenda though. I have gone through this before during winter months and was not making the trip.

You can call the DMV and get a letter pushing the date, as long as you have a valid reason (you're out of state for a while, etc). I had one while I was in Georgia, and used it once. It was for my NJ registered car, and I wasnt going home until summer vacation.

+1 on what everyone said. If I were her, I'd just rip the sticker right off.

Definitely. I would think that NY would require her to have the car registered there if she resides there. VA requires that and gives you something like 30 days to comply (I think). You certainly are not going to get anyone to just mail a sticker.
