Feb 21st Shoe Run!
OK gang..
Its time for us to send a message to our wounded soldiers at Walter Reed, and that message is "We thank and support you!"
Our brothers over at g35driver are setting up with the folks a Walter Reed, the ability for us and Nissan/Infiniti/ (all other makes welcome) enthusiasts to drop off running shoes to they guys there.
Apparently there is a large need, for sneakers in mens sizes 9-11.5. If anyone wants to donate some new running shoes we can drop them off on the 21st.
I figure a pair of Asics is $50 ~ $60.. and we all prolly spend that going out 1 night for dinner and drinks.. so.. maybe we can give up 1 night of fun for these guys.
Unfortunately there looks to be some obstacles, to seeing and visiting with these heroes.. so many of the guys will only be able to hear us( the cars ) visit.
There is still allot to work out, and I'll post more details here as they evolve.
Yes .. I FULLY realize this is on the same day as the AAM meet, and yes, it was planned that way, on purpose.

Will they take other sizes? I have a pair of size 13 Asics I bought awhile back - they're Brand New but are a bit too small for me. I've just been holding on to them for whatever reason.

Yup.. I'm sure a large size will be great. Sometimes wounds cause things to swell.. and.. I'm sure a guy smaller than a size 13 might find his foot in a larger size, at least for a little while.

We will drop the shoes off at the hospital at noon and the donation coordinator will be putting the word out that we are coming and take us over to the dormitories where the soldiers stay. There is a pretty big parking lot out there and whoever wants to go. Please do not sign up if you are unable to come.
It will be REALLY EMBARRASSING if only 2 of us show up.

Since MDracer is B'd here are the details
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21 Feb 2009 @ 1030am = Meet at Gina Driver's (G35driver) apartment complex (16th and Eastwest Highway) - exact address TBD
1130am = drive to Walter Reed = We are on someone elses schedule (he is coming in on his day off) so we need to stick to the times posted.
1200pm = drop off NEW SHOES to volunteer coordinator Maurice
1230ish = drive to wounded warrior dorms and see if they want to look at the cars. Maurice will be letting them know that we are coming so we need to show up in force.
afterwards see where we can eat.
This will happen Rain or Shine since it has now been put on the calander of the hospital's donation office.
They will accept NEW SHOES and socks. Any used items donated will be taken to Paul's Place Soup Kitchen in Baltimore.
I will be accepting donations on Saturday at the VA HH as well as any day up to the 20th of Feb. If you dont like shopping I will be more than happy to do it for you.... It will be really embarrassing if we show up with two cars and one pair of shoes. Maurice is going out of his way to help us and the least we can do is help them. Thanks.
