Any Chill Spots in Columbia?
Any of you guys know of any cool spots to hang out in our area? I hate the idea of going all the way into DC and see the same stuff [overcrowded clubs, overpriced drinks, and rude asshats ready to fight over nonsense].
Just wondering if there's any spots [locally in MD] that you guys frequent and could recommend [for the 29-30 and over crowd].

Also Wilde Lake area seems to be pretty awesome now. On thur night and weekend nights Clyde reserves the deck area and it's like an outdoor bar. Definitely check it out!

Bars to try in baltimore. (I dont frequent columbia)
Idle hour
Dont know
No Idea
Little Havana
Rafters
J Patricks
Metropolitan Cafe
Annabel lee
Let me know if you wanna come out for a few drinks man. We can definitely make that happen. (and I will show you good places to park)
Descriptions listed below.
Fridays and saturdays are usually pretty crowded there. (as with any place on cross st.) If you move a little further south charles st the parking gods smile upon you and the city loosens up a bit. Here are some great places to hit up with a 2 mile radius of thirsty dog.... or pub dog or whatever its named this week. (I have a story about why they had to change their name if interested).
the Idle Hour: Owners Brandon and Randall are usually working the bar. Darkly lit artsy kind of bar (need candles to sign your tab). No meat heads etc. Strong pours. Try the pickle back. Sounds gross but you gotta do it at least once. Also try the Chartreuse if you havent. They are the largest seller on the east coast. Fort Ave
Little Havana. Great weekly specials great mojitos pretty good margaritas really good food. Huge place that can get crowded on the weekends but because of the space service isnt too bad. Also has outdoor seating. Key Highway. If you hook up with a girl and spend the night head over to their brunch
"Dont know". Owned by a guy named Jason. Huge bar, lots of bartenders, drinks not to strong so stick to beer or specials. Food really good. Can get pretty crowded but girls like to be there so there are usually some good things to look at. Charles st. (also check out "no idea" Owned by same guys slightly smaller)
Ropewalk is also good but borderlines on meat head. Charles St
Metropolitan cafe. Tons of beers. Great food Small space but worth checking out. Charles st. (service is horrible no matter how crowded or empty it is)
Probably one of my favorite places in bmore is Annabel Lees. It was voted best adult bar in baltimore magazine. Dedicated to Poe this bar has lots of aswesome things. Small row house size (so you may have to wait for a seat but totally worth it.) Duck fat french fries which are awesome. and lots of other good food to eat. They play 1920's-30's music so its a little erie but totally adds to the feeling. Its over by patterson park so take your DD or remove your volks. Its right on the border. Not to scare you off its just not in as nice of place like federal hill. Again, really worth it. Park your car in fed hill and catch a cab.
If you move even further into south baltimore into locust point you can hit up a great irish bar called J. Patricks. Two old irish guys run the place. Its a little bit on the older crowd side of things but there is irish dancing on wednesdays with live music and live music on saturdays. There are like no windows in the place but its awesome. On of the TRUE irish pubs in the city. You wont be disappointed. Also check out city limits (voted best sports bar not my favorite though) If your looking to get drunk with your friends (and have a DD) hit up rafters on fort ave. Heavy hands and the bar tenders are usually drunker than you so you dont get charged for most of what you order.
Wow this turned out longer than expected.
Again sorry for the long *** post. Living in baltimore has let me see some really cool neighborhood places that most people dont even know about. (ie not near cross st, thames st or boston st), so I get really excited to tell people about stuff. If you ever need a good place to go on a date in the city or whatever send me a pm. I got some Pimp **** for ya.
Thats why I mentioned those. Im 29 (almost 30 ugh) but the crowds are usually a little older. At the very least older than 25. The further you move away from the big areas like cross st (fed hill), boston st (canton) , and thames (fells) the crowds get better. They start getting more neighborhood crowds which tend to better than the visitors. (can afford the house, respect the neighborhood its in etc). Like I said on the weekend places are going to be crowded. But crowded with what is the answer. I mean you arent going to have a gaggle of hot girls without the addition of meat heads. I usually like chill places where I can bring friends have drinks and have a good time.
I dunno, does that help? I HATE meat heads, waiting 30mins for a drink because I dont have ****, and paying way to much for coke with a touch of bourbon in it.

Ever since hearing about that couple that got robbed at gunpoint after making a wrong turn in downtown B'more [and then to add insult to injury, got berated by the cops for being there in the first place] I've been pretty sour on it.
No offense, [I've heard about Fells Point? but never actually been] but I wouldn't take my Corrolla up there and leave it so forget about the Z.
I'm actually looking for something close to home in the event that I do get a little tipsy the drive home won't be too bad.
[FTR if I have the Z out, I usually don't drink as heavily]

County people and city people are two different beasts and are terrified of eachothers habitat. For me Applebees TGI fridays, and PF changs do not qualify as chill spots and scare me. For county people gangs drugs and violence getting shot robbed raped etc scare them. There havent been any murders in south baltimore (federal hill) and out of 130 homicides in baltimore 10 have been white or asian and most of those were drug related
You are not likely to get hurt going to baltimore. You dont need an up armored HUMVEE. The corolla will be fine on the cobblestone in Fells I promise

Oh and I forgot there was a pub dog in columbia. Thats why I thought you were interested in coming to bmore. I thought you guys were talking about the original pub dog.
(I guesss thats why my stuff is OT) sorry man

Sorry Grizz, I've actually never even seen the "nice" parts of B'more. I used to go down to the Harbor every now and then when I lived there and I did a 5 month detail at one of our field offices on S. Howard street a few years back.
I wouldn't mind exploring some spots down there [and I remember a really nice stretch of road going down 895 that I'd love to take the Z on]

Howard st.... yeah not the best. That pretty much contains the bad image of baltimore/stereotype people dont want to be part of. 83 is also really fun (although cop heavy these days).
I live right off the highway. You maybe have to take two turns and you are at my house. Id love for you to come down man. Really easy to get to so you dont have to worry about ending up in something out of the Wire. I will have to get some peeps together for a mini happy hour or something. one beer an hour of course. I think I could sway your feelings on the city.
Again I didnt mean anything personal.
