Headers / Supercharger Question
very true, not to mention that the stillen sc doesnt make near as much power as say a vortech or procharger. A friend of mine has the stage 4 stillen blower and was only making 350 to the wheels while i was only running the 3.12 pully on my vortech and was making 360.

Too bad this is gonna quickly becaome a "hate on Stillen thread" (It always does). But you're absolutely right!! Unless you're gonna first build the engine properly to meet your needs, you're just asking for an early death by bolting on max HP.
Go with something mild if you are gonna keep the internals stock. Otherwise in the long run you are just gonna be asking for headaches.
It's better to go faster for a long time, then to "bolt on" max HP with no engine mods and blow your $hit after 20,000 miles.
+1000 on the fugly hood, i hate mine!!! Only thing that makes me feel better about it is at least it's functional, unlike 99% of the kids out there that put stick on scoops on their Honduhs that don't even have a hole in the scoop, let alone one that goes through the hood!!
Roots Superchargers like the stillen require mass amounts of back pressure, without it you lose power.
with a Vortech or ProCharger, you can increase boost with headers and the psi stays lower.
For example:
I have the Vortech SC for the RevUp kit that is supposed to make 9psi out of the box. Well my engine exhaust mods brought the psi down to 7.8
I got the 2.87 which should push my car to 10.5 psi.
I am now only at a weaksauce 8.8psi
APS plenum (for now)
Strup Headers
Test Pipes
Stillen Y pipe
440 cc injectors
(its recommended that I get the fuel return system for over 9 psi) but I didnt make nine (yet) so im now stressin over that mod, but its coming soon.
Stock midpipe and muffler.
8.8 psi put down the same numbers the 10.5 whould with stock exhaust would yeild....maybe my power is a little later in the RPM range, but its at a safer lower boost level. but no boost level should be consider safe, just some more risky than others.
my two cents.

Never Dynoed my Stillen, don't want to know (lol), but i'd be surprised if i got close to 350 to the wheels. But it works for me, it's safe, and i love it!

Im happy with my Stillen setup so far, the headers, cats and exhaust that is. I want to get some more power but safely of course. Im not looking for huge huge numbers, just want more from my car thats all.
Well if you don't mind spending the $$$, then the Stillen setup sounds right for you. But like we have all said, you are gonna have to go back to a stockish exhaust setup. I have the Nismo exhaust and an E-Cutout when i want to fulfill my loud exhaust need and not sacrafice backpressure to teh blower.

Sorry Jeff as i am now in the house.
Now that i wised up and got the stage 4, I should get mine dynoed just to show everyone how much i suck, LOL.
I still love it tho, if not for the fun installing it, and the noise it makes!! (Now there's a rice comment, LOL)
My car had a Stillen Stage 4 supercharger with an Emanage Ultimate, the damn thing got so much heat soak, it sounded cool though.

I saw a stillen s/c Z and it sounded like a pull back racecar. The whine was way too much! Overpowered even the exhaust. I hope your cars all sounded different than that one. Doesnt sound awesome to me.
That's the main reason i went back to my stock air box from my popcharger. I enjoyed the noise for a few months, then it just go to be too much. It's not as bad inside the car, but when i would pass cars with it maxed out, the whine would reflect back enough to make my ears ring with the windows down!
The cost of twins is high, but they have the best response. You can always go powerlab single which is cheaper (~5800 for the tuner kit), and is half the cost of install (~1200). Greddy twins are great, but they are ridiculously expensive for all the needed parts and install (~2400-2500). If you have the money twins.....are the way to go. The powerlab kit is a good option and will make WAY more power than your stock block can handle. Even on a built short block you can make ~625whp on the 35r and close to 700 on the 37r.
