Unhappy P0300 Code...FML

So I decided against getting the 370 due to some friendly advice from Sondra and I installed some Injen CAIs on the car a few weeks ago and have been loving it ever since. Last night I am driving home from Columbia and hit no major puddles but on the highway my engine starts sputtering and the engine light starts blinking. So I limp home and check the engine light and get the P0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire code and the car sounds like hell. I go up and check the oil, filters etc and the only red flag was that the tip of the filters was wet from road spray.

Wake up this morning and the car starts up strong but doesn't seem to be idling right and I can smell a strong gas odor so I look at the exhaust only to find that one side is pushing exhaust vapor pretty strong with the other just barely pushing anything out. I drive 5 mins to work and it drives great the first few minutes then starts sputtering again as I pull in to the garage. Called Suzanne over at Hills and since everybody loves them they are they are booked up forcing me to try out JE import performance. Anyone ever experienced this code and can anyone share their experiences with JE? I am hoping its a quick fix and they will give a good diagnostic.

I was going to say its likely a bad plug. How many miles on your Im assuming OEM plugs?

IIRC they are rated to 100K miles, but one of my grounding straps MELTED to the electrode on one 1 plug when I was NA after like 10 runs in a row down the dragstrip lol. I was running lean though and I shouldnt have pushed it. My other plugs looked like DEATH at 50K miles.

You can easily pull the plugs withinh 15 mins Id check there. Fawk platinum plugs and Iridium, do cheap Coppers, gap them correctly, and replace them every 2 seasons.

Clean the maf sensor(s). It's a random/multiple misfire. I have had it a few times. Buy some dedicated maf cleaner....spray....let dry...re-install.

+1 on this being a MAF sensor issue. I had a similar issue in my pre-turbo days, but a standard spray cleaning did not fiz it. I had to replace the MAF sensor. In either case, this is not that big a deal.

Good luck.

The sensor isn't super cheap.....they pop up periodically in the classifieds. Whatever you do....don't go to the stealership for one.

The spray pretty much always works, unless the sensor itself has been damaged.

Is there any other place to get em other than used/forum besides stealership? When i worked at the parts store we rarely stocked them for anything newer than about 10yrs old

Don't drive if your car is misfiring. Misfiring dumps a lot of excess fuel into your OEM cats which causes them to burn up fouling the cats in the process which render them useless. Then again, it could be a great excuse to upgrade to test pipes if this does happen, but just a warning if you don't feel like spending an extra few hundred bucks.

If thats their verdict i will give it a try but wouldnt it throw a MAF code if that were the culprit?

R/M misfire is a maf code....it is just looped in as default with others for a misfire.

It is common to have maf issues after an intake install or re-oil. The sensor just gets gunked up, and non responsive. The ecu then freaks out.
