Default *** MID-A Official Bike Thread***

Well guys I started this thread because there is lots of bike talk going on. Plus there are some people here that have some great knowledge on this subject.
Plus perfect riding season is approaching .

Also I am looking to pick up a BIKE
First of all I am a decent size guy. Im 6'1 or so and I come in about 230ish lbs so I want something that wont struggle and fits me. Dont wanna be looking stupid on a little bike and my big *** self.
I have been doing my reasearch and looking in my spare time. Its a tough choice to make. I have some knowledge on bikes but not alot like some people on here and would apppreciate youre input. I have been looking into the common bikes like the R6s,R1s,Gixxers & and CBRs. Out of all of them I prefer the CBR mainly on looks and it seems to perform well overall.
Also lookign for a bike to put my girl on also so her thong can stick out....lol.

Well onto the good part I am currently looking at a 99 CBR 900RR that a guys has just sitting in his garage. overall the bike looks superb. Nice colors some extra parts exhaust and little things. Some polished pieces. The bike has 13,xxx miles. The guy claims he never dropped it but no one never knows. Has all the original stickers and stuff. The hard part is i cant find anyo other bike to compare it to. Since it is a older bike its a little difficult.
This one is my first choice dont really care about the age of the bike and the price is equal to some newer bikes so if i change my mind or decide not to there would be no problem. The guy s asking 5,000 firm. I know him and im cool with him so he might budge a little bit but not much.

Experience wise im not a stuntman or pro but i have some background riding smaller bikes etc and almost driving off a cliff in guatemala LOL.

You can get newer 1000s in the $6000 range so to get a 12 year old 900.... meh, doesn't seem like a great deal unless you're a 900 fan. But then you'd fall more so under a collector then a rider.

If you don't have a lot of street experience I'm going to fall back on the old saying.

SV650, or hell since you've got a bit of size on you, a Bandit 1200 is a great bike too. Bit heavy but it wont catch you off guard like a SS bike will.

That guy asking $5K for that is smoking crack, lol @ people who think their $hit dont stink and their used crap is worth money.

If you havent ridden on the street and have an M endorsement I wouldnt suggest that bike, ever.

Tons of "big guys" say "I am big I cant start on a 600 I will look dumb"

Well the size differences between most 600/liter bikes is negigable, so thats dumb to say that. IMO you will look dumber with a SS bike and 3" chicken tenders on your back tire.

I know everyone wants to look cool (admit it or not) but this isnt something you should ever jump into. A supersport bike is not forgiving in its handling, brakes, and requires an experienced rider to even get 50% out of it. If you just wanna do highway pulls and have your girls a$$hole sticking off the back then get what you want.

Otherwise, start with something forgiving, get instruction, and be level headed. If you arent at least the ladder, regardless of what you choose you will end you will end up in the ICU or in a casket, its that simple.

I still recall a summer night a few years ago I was out on a ride with a friend. Rt 3 in Crofton by Crapitol. Group of 5 or 6 SS bikes at a light as we go by (most not even geard up). Stopped down the road at a 7-11, my friend and I hear the bikes go FLYING by, easily 120mph plus. 5 minutes later, sirens, cops, ambulance, fire dept. We cruise home shortly after, and see one guy dead all twisted up in the road., He had lost control of his bike showing off, went head first into a barrier. They didnt even have the sheets on his still warm a$$ yet. It was eerie as fawk. All his boys were standing around destraught. His bike was 1/2 mile down the road from his body. Ride safe, whatever you get. Dont end up like that guy. The minute you disrespect your bike, it will throw you off and a$$ **** you before you die.

Now that my "be smart" rant is over, this is the most fun you can ever have on a bike, PERIOD. For 3yrs I rode on the streets, and did ok. At times I felt I couldnt possibly lean further or go faster. I read books, I pushed hard but stayed within my limits never going down once. The 2nd lap on the track shattered that and my senses were honestly overwhelmed with g forces and lean angles Ive never experienced. If you want a SS bike, you owe it to yourself to go on a road course. If you dont want to, then dont buy a SS bike. Its a shame 70% of SS bike owners have never and will never go to a track.

I've owned an FZR600 and currently have an R1. There is a world of difference between the two. Both can kill you, but the R1 just requires my full attention at all times.

I know I will never push the limits of this bike.... ever. My brother, who used to race, tells me that the bike will do whatever I ask of it within reason, just don't front brake in turns. He told me if I really wanted to learn to ride I had two options, accept laying it down from time to time as I find the limits or buy a 50cc and learn to push that to 100% so when I lay it over it won't hurt as much.

+1 on the big guy angle, I'm 6' and was 230lbs at one point. When you have a belly you just look like a big guy on a bike, period.

Alberto- I see what you are saying and agree 100%. I may not be a track junkie yet but we all start somehwere. I know there is a completely different rush than just cruising. But for now i just wanna cruise around and hang with friends which im sure you at one point also did. i wouldnt mind hitting the track one day and seeing what its about.

jeffie- it is kinda funny when someone is asking so much for a older item that what the update bikes have to offer. But this CBR doesnt hold some type of rarity value? i mean i cant find one like this anywhere. also this bike is not common the gixxer boys and R1/6 guys.

If you had to have a CBR 900 that was clean then no doubt its a good bike. However, what is it worth to you to have that CBR900? Are you a die hard CBR900 fan? Are you going to show the bike?

As far as a riding bike goes, RUN its over priced. Only person willing to buy it for his asking price will be someone who has been searching for a very clean CBR900 Outside of that perfect *** for that bike's seat, it's worth about 3500 tops.

Think of it his way, do you want a

2007 350Z for $20K

or a

2003 350Z for $17K

That's about what that bike would be worth in 350Z terms.

I almost sold it to Barney last year. I don't ride much anymore either. Its a '99 and last of the carb models. I will see if I can post a pic or two for you and you can see what you think its worth.
