after stopping by one of the most wonderful places on earth, hooters, on a saturday night, my friend and i headed home from old town pasadena. after exiting the 210 fwy onto colorado boulevard, a two-lane street that broadens into three lanes, i was going at a rate of about 35-40 mph. beside me is another car that is running the same speed i am, thus preventing all other people from behind us from passing us up (unintentional). then i see hyperwhite headlights right on my *** for about 3 blocks. i tried to figure out what car was behind me by shape of the headlights. unsuccessful. it's obvious this guy wants to race me so i decide to go for it. i know that colorado boulevard is going to turn into a three lane street in a couple of seconds, with nothing but straightaway. so i scan ahead to see if there are any police or any other slow moving vehicles, and everything is okay. i know the guy's coming from my side, so running about 45 mph, i drop it into 3rd and punch it. the tires chirped, and i took the rpm's all the way up to 6k, and then shifted to 4th. right at this moment, everything's a blur, and i all can feel is a big adrenaline rush. i don't see the guy during this time, but then i hear a really loud backfire, followed by a "pfft."(Blow off valve) i thought to myself, "turbo." well, i finally did figure out what car it was, because all i could see was the car's ***. he pulled on me probably by 1 car and a half's length. the supra turbo was beat before the turbo kicked it. but as soon as i heard the backfire he pulled on me. then there was a red light up ahead, and we pulled up next to each other. i think he was telling me, according to my friend (everything was still a blur), "man, that f*cker pulls hard" i told him i liked his car, and then i drove home normally after that. and that was it, short but sweet. nice to know i pulled on him pretty hard before his turbo kicked in. oh yeah, i'm pretty sure his car was modified pretty heavily, from what i could hear and see. his rear tires were probably at least 1 foot wide.

Yeah, the Supra's can be made INSANELY fast with a stock bottom end.
Thing is...you probably should have ran him from a stop...you probably could have done a bit better then you did from a roll.
Once those cars are moving (especially HWY speeds), they are wicked fast...

 

Whats similar between a 500hp supra and a 800 hp supra?

They both run mid 12's.

hey webcarconnection, i was just looking at your signature. your z puts out 262 hp to the wheels? that's really good, taking into consideration your z is also the lightest of the bunch. i also saw your 1/4 mile speed, and congratulations. i think that's the best i've seen thus far. what was your launching technique? 2k, 3k, or what? pretty impressive stuff, maybe you could've faired better than i did against the supra tt.

 

Thank's.... I have no technique really I just launch @ 2000 to 2500 and the rest is play with the pedal. the W is almoust identical of the W in the site of nissan usa, I dont know if they have the tank full of gas, but I have almoust no gas in the tank when I take the W.
the Mod Supra's are very fast cars, is true they have no grip at firts (streets tires) but in the top end they are beast's.

 

As everyone else has said, those Supra's are fast. I rode in a single turbo one that could barley break the tires loose down low but as soon as that turbo kicked in, it would break the tires loose in the top of first, second, and almost third. It was simply amazing. Good run.

i know for sure i heard the blow off valve (i've rode and driven a couple of turbo charged cars). are you referring to the backfire sound that i heard? because i've never heard nos before, so that might have been what i heard. but surely i heard a loud pop sound that could be described as a backfire. is this sound the cycle of nos being shot into the manifold and being burned in the combustion chamber and then being spit out by the exhaust?

I honestly dont think he would have used his "NOS" on you if he had it.. Did you happen to see a FMIC? Nitrous isn't one of the most basic mods on a supra. You could spend just as much and have the power of a nitrous'd "stock" supra all the time with a few mods. No offense and all.. but there was probably no nitrous involved.

 

none taken. i just wondered about the possibility after someone mentioned it up above. as for the intercooler, nah, when he was right on my *** all i could see were his headlights. and after that all i saw was his rear bumper. haha. but as i mentioned earlier, i definitely heard the blowoff valve, so i know he was running a turbo charged engine, and plus, the way he pulled on my z could not have been done naturally aspirated. it was a big *** kick from being behind me to jumping all the way in front of me a car and a half's length

 

You wanna show me any 800 hp supra that runs in the 12's?? I would love to see a link...damn jealous 350Z owners. Even though the Supra won this race, the driver either sucked or the car was sick. He should have put at least a buslength on you unless he was stock. Do disrespect to Z owners, but the Supra is in a whole different class of cars and would rip any Z a new *******.

It's a very common joke. Yes there are 800hp supra's that run 10's and better but the common joke is for the most part is a 500 hp supra will run a mid 12 @ say 110mph and a 800 hp supra will run a mid 12 @ 145 mph. Believe me I'm not knocking supras it's like the joke that you have to have a mullet to drive a camaro. My next car will be a Mark4 supra. I just want a license plate to read 4 DIGT HP.
