I'm sure they have. From all indications it's a driver's race, stock for stock as so many 350Z'ers insist upon in comparisons.

I know this isnt what you asked but I have a lightly modded 93 Z28 with the LT1 and I have raced a Z and pulled him by a good 4-5 cars of cars. I have an auto so I killed him off the line. If I were stock, it would have been a whole lot closer than it was, he might have even got me but Im not stock so he didnt beat me. I ran into another Z this morning that I would have lost to with no doubt in my mind.....he had a 100-shot. I agree though, stock for stock would be a great race. They dyno about the same hp but the Z28 has a bit more torque with the Z being a bit lighter.

Either that guy wasn't racing you or he drives like a$$. I've pulled 3 cars on an LT1 in my Z. Being as the cars are supposed to be equal in straight line performance I just assumed he was a suck driver.

Or maybe my car is faster than a stock Z. I dont wanna start a flame fest but come on man. I know he was racing because we talked afterwards. He might not have been the best driver but god forbid I actually beat him.

i agree, he said his car was mnodded, and from what it sounds like, the Z was stock? Correct me if thats wrong, thats just what it seemed like. Stock, the Z would have been a whole lot closer, but w/ mods to a stock Z... I love the Z tho and im still getting one...eventually

The Z I raced was in fact stock. The guy had just finished his break-in period and wanted to finally beat on it. I see this guy alot and he said he would eventually mod it so maybe Ill give him another chance when he gets some mods. If I lose, its cool. The guy is really cool and I have no problem losing to a faster car.

I was cruising on the highway once when this Z28 with borla exhaust comes up behind me. i knew he had a 275hp stock(the tail lights was solid red no yellow turn signal). We play a little cat and mouse. He takes off first at 80+. I gain on him but I slow down traffic up ahead. My 5AT Z pulls harder at those speeds. I dont know about off the line I never raced one.

I have raced two, one was a z28, I beat by about 4 car lengths w/ a few runs. The other was TA, it gave me a run for my money, real close race, but the Z got the kill. We only ran once. I think stock for stock the Z is a little bit faster all being equal, but not much at all. If you get a slightly modded one w/ a good driver, you may get it handed to you. I want to race that generations SS. I have always liked those cars.

There's an explanation for getting that much variation in running stock LT1's - upkeep. Those cars are getting old, and the ones that have been well maintained are starting to shine over the ones that have been beaten on.

True dat Caswell. My car has just over 118k on her but she was very meticulously maintained by its previous owners(I have over 250 receipts from services and such) and myself(I do everything myself) so she is in pretty good running condition. I have driven other LT1 Z28s though that seem like dogs because they have been beaten on day in and day out and were not properly maintained. It just goes to show you that if you take care of your car, it will take care of you!

Just FYI the 96 cars didn't have the yellow turn signals and were rated at 285HP.

Reguardless from a stop you should get pulled out of the hole...LT1s have big torque down low.

Its a drivers/car race....depending on how strong each car is. Stock LT1s run from 13.8-14.3 with decent driving....moddin is farely inexpensive so with a few cheap mods it shouldn't be close.

BUT on another note this post (and the closeness of the races) SOLIDIFIES the fact that stock for stock a LS1 car would blow a Z off the road....every LT1 i've run has not been close.

Yep. I pulled ~4 cars on a Z from a 60 mph roll, but I'm not quite stock. LT1's are pretty corked up from the factory, breathing mods make a world of difference.

On the freeway a Z could probably put several cars on a stock auto LT1, esp. a vert or 2.73 car. A six speed would put up a better fight from a roll. From a stop it "should" be a drivers race, both cars are solid low 14 second rides with some dipping into the 13's if conditions are right. Unfortunately, LT1's are going the way of the 5.0 mustangs. They're cheap, and a lot of kids get them and flog them to death without maintaining them.

If the Z28 is in a good condition i would say it will be a driver race giving they are both are M6's or both are Auto.

Just want to comment really quickly. T/A what year? Z28 what year?

First off.. the SS and T/A have maybe a 10hp advantage over the other models and increased weight due to rims, hood, etc.. so basically racing a Z28 is the same as racing either the T/A or SS. Unless your talking 98SS and a 97Z28.. then its LT1 vs LS1 (No contest in stock form.) The LS1 will OWN any LT1 stock for stock. I raced a 97 Trans Am recently and it was PATHETIC. Raped it off the line and slaughtered it from a roll. For comparison I hang with strong LS1s and edge out the avg LS1 car.

As stated by others on here..LT1s are getting old, if they are not maintained or some kid has beaten the hell out of them, they are not going to be much a race...for anyone. I recently had my LT1 tore down to the block and redone (by me) for 500 in parts, I blew a head gasket and made sure everything was perfect before puting it back together. The lower half of the LT1 is roller, there were no signs of wear and it was clean down below. Since I had the heads redone anyways.. I didn't have much to worry about up top either. I also have a friend running 13.00 @ 108mph on stock cam, 1.6RR, LT4 Springs, Headers, Catback, CAI, and a few other boltons. Its going to be hit and miss running LT1 cars.. Just don't underestimate one when you see them. Think about it this way.. the LT1 in the camaro was rated at 275..the SS and TA, as well as vette are rated over 300 from different exhaust and intake setups. As someone else said they are bottled up from the factory and it doesn't take much to extract the extra hp.

With Borla he was more than likely close to 300+ crank hp..and not 275 Chances are the Z28 you ran into was stock Auto. My auto on stock converter was horrible from a roll..I had v6 manual mustangs keep with me from rolls until I would hit triple digits then I would pull away easily, it doesn't like to downshift..or I should say the shifting is not very aggressive.

I know what a borla exhaust looks like(Dual shiny tips) loud as hell. I know it puts 15hp more.

Yes I remember my LT1 auto did kind of blow from a highway roll. Did good after 110 or so. They do really good if your going 31 or slower however.
