HSDE at Blackhawk Farms with PCA
Too much fun!
My 2nd event there with the Z, and I learned a bunch. I was a Novice, as I haven't ever run with the PCA.....I won't count an Ice Gymkhana 30 years ago......As a Novice, I was assigned an instructor, Mike Gallagher, an Autocross National Champion last year, ex go cart racer, etc........an AWESOME driver. Within 1 lap, having never driven a Z, he was FLYING in my Z! First he drove, showing me the lines, braking points, turn in points etc. Then I drove, with him critiquing....lots of that. Basically, he showed me that the Z CAN fly around a race track. We both Killed a bunch of $80,000 Porsches. Needless to say, he LOVED the Z!
Forgot to mention my mods....13 POINT ONE inch StopTech front brakes, F & R Cusco Anti Sway bars, F & R SS brake lines, F & R Panther + pads, Motul 600 brake fluid, & Mobil 1 5W30. Thats it. An Enthusiast with OEM 040 tires. All worked flawlessly....even the tires, more latter.
After he rode shotgun for about 10 laps, he promoted me out of novice, into B2. The benefit to me was an extra 25 minute session. I got in 5 sessions, getting a whopping 8 MPG I went through almost a full tank of gas at race pace.
Something awfully cool about a sustained 4 wheel drift at 80 MPH. through a carousel turn.
As to the understeer issue.......MUCH lessened with the Cusco's, but still there. Driving was easy, Z always went where pointed, maybe with a bit more steering angle than ideal, but it felt fine. BUT.....the truth is in the tires. Front got feathered a bunch, after being perfect before the event. The rears showed almost no feathering.......
Since I was driving MUCH better than a couple weeks ago with the Lotus Corp with OEM sway bars, It's hard to fairly judge the Cusco's, other than to say I'm NOT taking them off! Other than MAYBE a stiffer rear bar..... The brake upgrade was fantastic!
I'm tired of typing, so a few pics:
