Default 350Z 5AT vs Stang GT Bulitt(intake)manual

Well I was cruising in my Z when I pulled beside this Bullit. I said lets go and he agreed. I beat him by a half car length to 90+had to slow up light ahead. This guy knew how to race. Sounded like he dropped the clutch on every shift. Chirping on each shift. I talked to him afterwards and said he did 14.1 on the track. Asked me if my Z is stock? I told him bone stock auto He just laughed it off. Those Stangs are pretty quick. But my Z is prettier

I had similar results from 50-130. We were pretty even when we shut down.

sounds fine....i just dont think people should say that this bullit guy knew how to drive just because he was spinning while shifting. a well driven bullitt on a well prepped trackl is a 13.8 car easy.

Why should this thread turn ugly?

Two cars, just about dead even on paper, they race, one wins by half a carlength.

A wins a win, and it's totally believable.

Any race between two cars that are that close is gonna come down to driver skill.

Hell, I've seen plenty of corvette drivers run 14's because they didn't know how to launch.

Half of the race is the driver, half the car. And the race is normally won/lost in the first 60 feet. (unless it's a lower powered AWD car that takes the first 60, WRX).

Since when is a Auto Z about even on paper as a Bullitt, naw the manual 350 is closer but still a tad slower on paper.

The guy with the Bulitt knew how to drive. I heard him rev not too much before launch. Had good traction. I could have lied and said won by couple car lengths. But it was pretty close race. Now I got to learn how to power brake my launchs..I beat him from idle..

First off, nice run. Second i'm surprised someone hasnt mentioned this yet........ THEY WERE NOT RUNNING ON A WELL PREPPED TRACK!!!!!!!! They were running on the street!!!! So throw that equation out the frickin' window. Why is it so hard to comprehend that a V6 flat out beat a V8?????? Hmmmm??? I think (in this case and others) there is replacement for displacement..... a well built V6. Now it is not the best thing out there, but it is good enough to beat a V8. Sorry, was getting kinda thick in here!!

HOLY COW that is the BEST post I have ever read in this section!!!!!!!!

I constantly read 0-60 times on GTs in the high 5s and low 6s (I know "magazine racing sux"), so then we have the STREET to prove it and someone runs ONLY a 1/2 car length on a car that many mags say is slower than a Z and EVERYONE calls BS?!?!?! Come on, he isn't saying he beat a Marcialgo and he isn't saying he won by 2 cars lengths, I don't understand this section, I really don't.

This is why I have NEVER written my posts about a run in with a GT and some fun I had with a couple 911s (NOT kills, btw, just car and mouse).

btw, I have run some low 6 sec cars and they were closer than I thought they would be, and I didn't go 100% becasue I thought they would be easy kills, so take that as a reminder, if you are going to race, go 100% or don't go at all

FIRST OF ALL ...

stop dissing the autos...we're just as fast. i believe i read somewhere that someone here ran a 13.9 stock 5AT.
second of alll....i raced a good friend of mine that has a slightly modded bullet (pullies and magnaflow exahsut). I can get him to even come on the board if you guys want to fight this but i did beat him from a roll 3 times. 3 different nights. He was shocked. I was shocked. He's an ok driver. i didnt want to race from a line because of my auto but when i get back to school in the fall i'll gladly race him again and tape it if I have to.

not trying to start a fight with the mustang owners..i love mustangs, i wanted one. but give credit where credit is due.

Yeah, don't throw the autos out the door because magazines have them as being a few tenths behind.

On the street, I'd say they have an advantage, consistency. With a manual, there's a whole lot more room for driver error. Sure, a perfectly driven manual might be slightly ahead of an auto (extra gear, less drivetrain losses), but don't count them out.

I haven't compared a Z auto and manual. But, I did drive a G35 sedan auto and Coupe manual back to back. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in acceleration. And the coupe is supposed to have 20 more hp even.

Thanks for the replies..Just remember the 350Z is in the same class(14sec cars)as the new Stang GT. So the out come should be close.
