Default Australian 350Z Race Car

Hi from the Land down Under.
We have just taken delivery of our Z from Japan. It is to be used as a race car in the Australian GT Production Championship in the
GT Performance Class. Its first race will be an International 24 hour race at Bathurst on the 15th - 17th of November this year.
Our series rules are quite strict. All interior trim must stay, wheel & tire size as std, but slicks allowed, spings & shocks free but no mounting points to be altered. Motor has to be stock but ECU is free. Exhaust free from the manifold back. We apear to be at the same stage as dwnshft,s car.
Have some photos for you to look at. Tell me who to send them to.

You will be able to follow all of the action via web at www.procar.com.au or www.bathurst24hr.com

When is the 350Z going to be released in AU? According to the Nissan AU website, it is still a concept car. Going to be moving to Melbourne in December. Curious if I need to arrange for one from Japan or if they will be available by then.

Realese date according to the Dealers is Feb 03. Our car is a Jap spec model version S, poverty pac interior but with 18" wheels
& Brembo brakes. Our roll cage is now in & the dry brake refueling system will be fitted by tuesday. Custom shockabsorbers

What's pricing like to import one from Japan, vs waiting for them to be released in Feb?

No prices confirmed yet but dealers guessing between AU$60k to
$80k. Our car was bought new in Japan and was imported only for racing. We paid Yen 2,850,000 + shipping duty & taxes

With the current exchange rate, It's much cheaper to buy from Japan and import to AU. 2,850,000 Yen ~$26K US. So that price for for it delivered to an AU port? Might have to look into this a little bit more...

Where are you @ in AU? Are you a private team or a professional shop?

You can,t import a car into Australia for road use, ours was imported for racing only.
We are a private team based in Sydney but won the 2001 GTP Sports Touring championship in a Mitsubishi FTO against factory owned & supported teams

Since they are RHD can not you register them as a grey market import? Since Supra, Soarers, etc.. are all allowed to be imported, why not the 350Z.

Does your shop have a website? I'd be intersted in stopping by and checking your operation out when i arrive in December. Is that possible? Does your team have any openings for a machinist / fabricator / engine builder / mechanical engineer?

Thanks for all the info.

Thanks for sharing the photos....keep them coming!!!

Best of luck kicking some *** with your team's Z!

I found it interesting that you put the cage's main hoop diagonal brace at the angle you did. I've always seen/done it the other way. (diagonal attatched behind driver's head) Please explain why you mounted it the way you did.

Also noticed that your Z has 2 rectangular holes behind the seats....I've only seen shots with the round subwoffer hole.

Dual dry brake for refueling. Takes a lot of time off of pits stops. It helps flow more gas in faster.
The stock headers have to go. That is the first picture.
On our car, we are removing the whole section where the rear spearkers where.
Looks good best of luck to you.
Cheers

Thanks dwnshift need all the luck we can get,
We look to be at the same stage of development as you. Your series has a few more freedoms allowed than ours, but no use reinventing the wheel. We should get our heads together over common problems. If you want to contact us, please do so at sportscarint@aol.com
