Project took a break over the Christmas month here. Only thing left to do is get the drive by wire connected with the standalone. The car will be run in standalone mode, not piggy backing the maxima ecu. Everything is working and the drive by wire is next and then we're on the dyno. The guys working on the wiring caught the flu and caused a 3 weeks hold in November, and now we're in Christmas so I assume it'll be done by January completely!
ProEFI is basically doing the R&D with my car to get the drive by wire to be plug and play with the ECU in full standalone mode since it hasn't been done yet. Requires reprogramming and trying different setups.
Other things we did is run a MAP sensor/Intake Air Temp Sensor replacing the MAF which is known to fail from time to time anyways. Maybe pick up a few more ponies with the reduction in air flow restriction.
This build will have direct tuning without any ecu manipulation (piggy backing). So we shall squeeze as much power outa this motor as possible. We'll see what we pick up with adjusting the cam timing as well.

I can tell you this, I would be way more impressed with, and much rather own a high 11-second N/A VQ swapped Spec V than a mid 10 second vette or F-body. It's just a difference in preference.
I still miss my Spec V. I bought it brand new in 04, and would still have it today (surely VQ swapped by now) if not for a horrible driver and me being at the wrong place and time. They are very lightweight, pretty easily VQ swapped, and to me look great when tastefully modded.
Great build and definitely in for #s as I'm about to start into a N/A build for my 5.5 gen Maxima. I'm especially in for curve shape and peak numbers with the M2 porting and C2 cams, as those are 2 things I am considering for mine.

That's like asking him why he likes steak more than chicken. When it comes to cars, some people are the 'bang for buck' types that will almost invariably buy LS1 equipped vehicles or "insert full frame drag car + V8 here", and be LS1 equipped/V8 bigbody vehicle driver #1234987239487234 to do it (don't even get me started on mustangs). Others are fans of a different platform, or just want to be successful by doing something different, maybe setting records on that platform.

And I do love muscle cars, and I think most will agree that this will be some sweet all motor muscle, but to each their own to build their which cars how and what to build. It's all fun.
Oh and for the platform I do hope to set an all motor record for the B15 Spec V powerwise and track wise.

Found some pics I took a while ago when I got the custom harness and ProEFI Ecu, I meant to take a few more pics of the car so you could see it all plugged in and turned on, maybe next week I'll get a few more or by then it'll be a video on the dyno

For those who want to know what I'm most excited about, controlling the variable cam timing with this ECU and fine tuning these C2 cams!

Do me a favor and when you're tuning on the dyno, get your timing and A/F right first, then mess with VTC. I want to see what kind of gains you actually see. For me, VTC control means buying a $500 greddy V-manage.

Well, the R&D is done with Proefi, system isn't ready for plug and play drive by wire yet. We've converted to drive by cable, 75MM BBK Throttle body from a mustang, Lokar Cable and Pedal, and an Idle Air Control Valve will be added to the mix. Now since we're not messing with the wiring anymore it will be plug and play and to the dyno.
I'll be on vacation for the next week but when I get back we should have a video of a dyno shortly after. Drive by cable here we come! We were trying to keep it a little cheaper on parts and consumer friendly by allowing this setup to use the stock throttle body/pedal etc. Looks like they need to modify the software some to get it to work.

I'll take some pictures of how we end up mounting it with a modified spacer to the intake manifold. The BBK Throttle body didn't have the provisions for an IAC.

Yep, that is why I went with that one for my car as well, as it was the easiest to install. The car runs fine without an IAC, though I would like to bring the idle down back to where it was previously (when I had the DBW) and it would make cold starts and such way easier

Thanks, ya I want the motor to feel as smooth as possible at idle and all since it is going to be one of my daily driven cars. Definitely won't be in the garage much hehe.
Thanks for the complements on the project.

Car is back, untuned, driveable just need an idle adjustment bad for the cams! Sounds deep though and nice. I'll post some pics and try to get a video. It's moving along very smoothly, motor feels like butter with the balancing. After the break in miles (which I'm not rushing since I'm full time working) I will be getting the tuning done in 3-4weeks ish. Can't wait to rip her wide open!
Machine work, you're in the ball park of around 1800$ included the serdi valve job, balancing, machine work for HR head gaskets the whole works. You don't have to get all the things I got but hey I wanted to see what I can reach for so I did the whole works.
