Default Kevin's VQ35DE Fully Built NA Motor

Hey everyone I'm Kevin and don't exactly have a 350z but have the motor . It's a 2002 SE-R Spec V with the VQ35DE swap. It's been in the car for about 2 years and now getting a full build. Wanted to set up a thread to get some feedback and what not or to show other what they may be interested in doing to their motors. I'm using the VQ35DE FWD version from a 2002 Maxima.

Last dynoed at 250hp/268tq.

Short Block :
Wiseco 96MM (.020 over) 11:1 High Comp Pistons
Eagle H Beam Rods and ARP Rod Bolts
ACL Thrust Washers/ACL Rod Race Bearings/ACL Main Race Bearing Set
350z HR Head Gaskets (need the machine work done for compatibility, shouldn't be very difficult a shop did it for a Z owner for around $80) (better coolant flow)
ARP L19 Head Studs and ARP Main Studs
350z Revvup Oil Pump (stronger)
OEM Gasket Set
Machine work to bore/hone and balance entire engine assembly. With zero balancing the underdrive pulley etc.

Heads :
JWT C-2 Cams
261 Duration
11.58MM Lift

JWT Valve Springs/Retainers
Headwork = Full port job maximizing flow
M2 Serdi Valve Job - 3 angle cut

(These flow numbers are before the serdi valve job, so expect an even larger increase in CFM 10-18CFM more should I have flowed the heads after, we just ran out of time the car is already almost done being reassembled!)

Stock - 188.8 @ .200"
281.2 @ .500"

Ported - 228.9 @ .200"
318.7 @ .500"

About a 37.5 CFM gain, which should be around 50hp on the top end and you can see there 40.1 CFM gain on the low. So if each CFM = around 1.4 HP you can see that the headwork alone will post around a 50hp increase

Intake setup: Intake manifold full ported, the upper intake manifold is gutted, called the SSIM mod, removing the shelf and unshrouding the bottom 3 runners. The VIAS has been removed as well and a block plate is there.

Tuning : Full standalone, Pro EFI - Pro 48 ECU (not piggybacking on the stock maxima ecu)

Misc :
JWT Flywheel
NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
6th Gen Maxima (2004-2008) Replacement Valve Covers (these help prevent a vacuum/oil leak over the 02-03 valve covers)
Walbro 190 Fuel Pump (already installed)
JWT Clutch (already installed)
NWP Thermal Intake Manifold Spacers (already installed)
Exhaust, Headers, Cold Air Intake (already there)

Nigel at Premiere Performance in Pembroke Pines will be doing the assembly
Larry at South Florida Crank will do all the machine work.

Here is what it looks like as is.

Goals : Build a rock solid fully tuned all motor beast sleeper with massive mid range power as a daily driver.

I'm getting the car back this week and then I'm breaking it for a while then fine tuning!

Default Headwork Pics are in!

I snatched a few pictures of the heads before they are going in to be reassembled. Was the last change to show the work

And just the valves cleaned up here and resurfaced. Had no time to try and show the Serdi Angle cuts, and I'm not sure the camera would be able to pick it up if I did anyways.

Thanks, I know it's not a 350z but the results will be just as interesting for the VQ35 motor =).

96mm is .020 (.508 mm) over stock - same size I think most people with built motors are running, except the stroker guys

20 over (i.e. 0.020" overbore) is 1/2mm over stock (96mm vs 95.5mm). Likely simply a typo on your part, but just wanted to clarify.

I have seen a lot of 11:1 off-the-shelf piston sets. Have you guys installed any higher CR sets, like 11.5 or 12:1 for high octane NA engines?

Yeah sorry it was a type I corrected it =). I do plan to run a 100-200 shot down the road though which is why I built the motor the way I did =P. So my displacement went from 3.49833L to a wopping 3.53513L motor. Just some calculator fun.

Car is back, untuned, driveable just need an idle adjustment bad for the cams! Sounds deep though and nice. I'll post some pics and try to get a video. It's moving along very smoothly, motor feels like butter with the balancing. After the break in miles (which I'm not rushing since I'm full time working) I will be getting the tuning done in 3-4weeks ish. Can't wait to rip her wide open!

Machine work, you're in the ball park of around 1800$ included the serdi valve job, balancing, machine work for HR head gaskets the whole works. You don't have to get all the things I got but hey I wanted to see what I can reach for so I did the whole works.

its 2660 stock I believe 2760 with the VQ maybe 2800ish, but I got the weight reduction flywheel etc. light rims now too don't know how light it is now. My model has no sun roof, no ABS brakes, its lighter than other 2002 sentra spec Vs

That's not bad. I'm planing on doing something similar to my VQ. Where did you get it done at?
