I put a 2x4 on the edge of the oil pan and let the edge dig-in / cut-into the wood to help with stability ... then but a jack underneath that to lift. I would rather have the weight of the engine on the perimeter of the lower and/or upper oil pans than in the middle.
I think I may (improve?) On your idea just a bit, Beall. I'm thinking of placing a block on each side of the oil pan on the lip (like you suggested) and running another across the pan spanning between the two. That way the pressure will distributed evenly between the two sides for what I feel will be a more even lift, but will still keep pressure off the pan.
Thoughts?

So your lifting point with the jack was the external perimeter of the pan, correct?

Probably better in the name of safety & redundancy. If you do it this way maybe consider using two 2x2 (if you can slice a 2x4 in half??). snap some pictures of the operation.

Z1 emailed my tracking number. FEDEX has an estimated arrival date or tomorrow.
Fedex came through today and delivered the mounts.
For those who haven't seen my previous post I will bring you up to speed. I picked up a set of semi-solid / polyurethane motor mounts from Z1 for a decent price on Black Friday.
The box contains the motor mounts, a tube of red LOCTITE, instruction manual, and two swag stickers for extra HP, TQ and cool points!
One thing that I liked about these mounts that drew me to them is that they are height adjustable from ~14.00 mm to -1.75 mm to raise or lower the motor. This would allow you to lower the motor if you wanted to slightly lower your center of gravity, or raise the motor if you are lowered and want to protect your oil pan just a bit. For now I think I will just leave the mounts as they are from Z1 (OEM height, I believe). I am sure other companies may have this option, but Z1 was one of the first that I had looked at and had excellent reviews, plus a good price.
One thing to note is that the mounts have an access window where you raise or lower the mount. The manual states to leave it accessible, so I am curious to see if the height is easily adjustable once on the vehicle.
One stipulation of me purchasing these mounts was that I agreed with the wife to let these be my Christmas present. So these likely won't be installed until the end of the month or the new year.
If anyone is considering these mounts and needs any additional pics / information on them before they are installed, feel free to post or PM me and I will try my best to answer your question.
Finally took a little time to begin the install of the Z1 motor mounts. I've used two videos and two DIY write-ups as references but am still racking my brain on how I am going to remove the passenger side mount. In one video they were able to fit a small stubby ratchet on top of it, but there is no way that is going to happen in my case. The only somewhat plausible option is to unbolt the mount from the block. Even that option is extremely difficult given the fact that I would need to pick up an extremely long wrench, and there is barely any room to turn the wrench at all.

should be able to hit the upper nut, i meant to go out and double check on my z today but forgot. If i remember tomorrow will look again but am pretty sure a 24" extension with a swivel will get you on it from the top.

I would appreciate that. I can hit the upper nut on the drivers side, but it seemed almost inaccessible from the top due to the manifold. Granted I did not spend too much time searching around it for ways to hit it, but that was how it initially looked. The DS was easy because I just removed the intake and had a (somewhat) clear shot.
There is always more to do
Just waiting on money to get more done. Mrs just o.k'd me to get a z1 undersheild. Been running without one for a long time. Found a deal i couldn't pass on and the guy lives less than 5 miles away. Funny how i found him here on market place.
