Default New Z owner with a question!

Hi everyone!

I am a newbie. I just got a 2004 350Z Touring model. Its silverstone/black with 32,000 miles and is certified pre-owned. Paid $22,700 out the door (including all the tax, title, reg, etc.) Was that a good price?

Is there a difference between 2004 and 2004.5? How can you tell the differences? My car was produced 06/04.

Do all Z's have vibration through the gearshift?

Has anyone replaced the high beams with white bulbs with stronger light?

Which air intake should I get? The K&N 63, or the K&N Typhoon? Any thoughts? Also, will that do anything to the warranty? What can I do to the car that won't affect the warranty?

Also, before I got this car, I had a VW GTI VR6. For some reason, it felt quicker than the Z. I know its not possible, but it really seems to be the case. My Z is still under the original warranty, but its also certified pre-owned. Anything I should check? I thought it would pull harder than it does...

Thanks in advance!

an intake wont void your warranty, but if you do change it make sure you keep the stock one.

Any suggestions regarding mods that wont void warranty? As for the CAI... which is better... the K&N 63 or the Typhoon?

I dunno, was it? Does it matter now that you're purchased it?

The answer is on this forum somewhere...

Short answer, yes. Long answer, https://my350z.com/forum/search.php

A Touring should have HIDs. They aren't bright enough?

You'll have to do your own research on that one.

Take it to the track and get a timeslip. Then you'll know for sure.

Just curious about it.

Will check this out, thanks.

It has HIDs for low beam.. but not bi-xenon... so the high beam is pretty crap. Plus I think I need to raise the low beam a bit.

You'll have to do your own research on that one.

Maybe I will. But never took the VR6 to the track.

I have the Stillen intake which uses the K&N conical filter w/ Stillen's venturi ring and a urethane shield. It's been on 10k miles with zero problems and great sound. Mabe check that out @ Stillen's website. They also sell the K&N Typhoon.

From what I have read, its because of a direct linkage to the transmission rather than a cable. It doesn't bother me... I just wanted to know if its normal. I guess it is. Thanks for the reply!

Do you know if the Typhoon or the 63 is better? The reason I am looking at K&N is because I can get a good deal on them.

So for sure a CAI won't affect the warranty at all?

What else can I do to the car without affecting any part of my warranty?

Your reply is much appreciated. Thanks.

IMO, ultimately most all cai's will deliver some very modest gains, will sound more agressive, and will drain your pocketbook to a greater or lesser extent. There are some members who believe a simple K&N drop-in replacement filter is all you need. If you can get a good price on a Typhoon, and have decided that this is a mod you want, go for it. Just don't expect too much in the enhanced performance/HP gain department.

So you mean just a regular K&N air filter?

Also, what do you mean it will drain the pocket book? Anything other than just the purchase and installation of the CAI?

I read that the paper air filters are better for this car... is that true?

Sorry about all the questions... I just like knowing whatever I can about the car I own.

Draining your pocketbook=purchase price + installation price unless you plan to diy and have the tools to do so. Typically it's not a hard job unless you buy a cai that requires you to take off the front bumper to install the cai. Some cai's are much easier to install w/ the bumper removed.
I installed my Stillen in less than an hour with no problems. Some other cai's require more effort, particularly those that go way down near the bottom portion of the front bumper; I guess what some would call "true" cai's.
K&N makes a high quality drop-in filter that replaces OEM. It's pretty cheap and according to some does every bit as good a job as the more expensive cai's, especially for an N/A daily driver.
Also, take a look at JWT pop-charger--many members here love them.

Welcome to the forum that has the largest search archive and plenty of helpful people if that doesn't work.

CongratZ on the silverstone. Do you have any warranty left to worry about? Depending on when the Z was first registered.

Yes I believe my warranty is good until this coming September... but my car is also certified pre-owned, so basically my warranty is good till around 2010.

I don't know if your warranty will be cancelled by installation of a cai. Some stealerships are more mod friendly than others. For me, I have never gone to the dealer except for extended warranty to replace a window motor. Otherwise, I do my own work or go to a wrench that I trust.
