Default Traded 03 Cobra for 2007 350Z - New Owner

Picked the car up 3 weeks ago. Came from 472/475 rwhp zinc yellow cobra. I do not miss spinning the tires up to 80 mph. Major heat soak after 3 runs down here in S. Florida. I really do not miss the cobra. Remember, someone will always be faster!

The Z is much higher build quality with refined technology. I have done some factory air box modifications along with removing the pre-muffler/resonator. It now feels much stronger in the mid to upper rpm band. After beating on it for 1200 miles I'm still getting 18.3 mpg. average - unbelievable.

Break-In - come on! After 50 miles the car has seen 30 to 40 plus 1st through 3rd gear redlines. At 900 miles the car went to Mobil 1 full synthetic oil.

My Cobra used to run traction limited 12.60's @ 116mph on street tires. I believe my new 2007 Z with 3.90 gears and K&N filters (as the car sits currently) will run high 12's all day long with traction.

Let me know if anyone wants to know the air box modifications? It really sucks the air now - sounds like an open filter set up with the boxes still on.

Look forward to learning and chatting with you guys and gals.

Welcome to the forums dude . What color did you get

Hopefully your replaced the stock intake tubing with your modification ... people have tested that there is no gain at all by *removing* the filter ... seems like the limitation is in the tubing itself.

Those 3.9 gears must be intense on the '07

03 Cobra trade is an interesting trade. I was pondering getting one, but got the Z instead.

Did you drill holes in the box or something?

I got the pikes peak white color.

Air box - remove the intake tubes that go into the box. I took a drill and tapped holes around the intake hole and the front of air box where the air comes in. Don't go crazy though. The holes now make the air box sound like a cold air open filter. It now takes in a lot more air versus the stock set up and at the same time keeps the heat down versus an open filter.

Going to track and dyno soon!

Edit - Air Box modifications

You will have to remove the air boxes in order to drill the holes. FYI In case someone tries doing this with them on .

Also the intake tubes/air horns/silencers stay off the car. You get plenty of cool air from the front without them. Too small and restrictive.

Welcome, and yeah the intake mod is great for noise. TP's and exhaust add a few good ponies.

Good question. I was initially a little scared when he hacked off the muffler from a perfectly good 1200 mile exhaust. But, when he was finished and backed the car out the door it was just mildly louder. It had the exact same exhaust note accept a little louder at idle. When you get on it is when you hear a difference - really sounds like a catback. At 6000 rpms the air is moving and sounding nicely.
