That really, really sucks! I'd say, since it was only your 2nd day with the car, there was emotional damage too. I would be distraught.
Hopefully, it's just the body work. I'd make real sure the crumple zone on the other side wasn't affected also. The slightest bend in the body has a way of making itself known over time.
Good luck. You should be fine and back on the road soon.

I took a few shots of the damage I'm curious now about changing the rear bumper to one of the kit types. Anyone have any advice?
