just bought my first car
Congrats on your purchase. I encourage you to check into your local SCCA and learn more about your and your car's abilities thru autocrossing and/or track days with instructors at local road courses. I did it with my 300ZX and my 350Z and I benefited tremendously from it-not only driving my Z but also my daily driver.
Enjoy the ride.

And on that note, here is my personal PSA for all new RWD owners....

You don't want to learn that ^^ on the street.
i believe he could have bought his Z... maybe not got the loan by his self.. but making payments and stuff... VERY possible..
when i was 18 i had the car i have now.. i was making over 400rwhp..
granted the car and everything i had in it it was still cheaper than the Z he bought... to know how to do that, and how to install the parts, etc... and actually do it.. most 18 19 20 year olds wont do stuff like that.... i just love how all the older guys around my area think my car is slow JUST because i am only 20 and still a kid.. ive put bus lengths on almost every one of them... only got 2 more left.. one i cant get to race for ****, and the other ones cari s usually broken but wants to race..
i believe him he has it... and he is making the payments.. i dont believe he got a loan in his name **only**..
congrats man..

For some reason, all the younger generation seems to think driving rear wheel drive is difficult. Before the 1980's, we had nothing to drive but rear wheel drive except for maybe the Saab, Citreon and Mini. We didn't have a rough time driving rwd, we didn't know any difference. Rwd makes a car much more controllable since the driving wheels aren't also doing the steering. The proof in the pudding seems to be that virtually all race cars are rear wheel drive. There have been very few successful front wheel drive race cars. In fact, I can't think of one. Does anyone remember the Lotus Elan S2 of the early
90's. It was front wheel drive and that was the main criticism of the car and it simply wouldn't sell because no one wanted a fwd Lotus.

The guy that spun my Z is an older autocrosser. The problem wasn't so much that he wasn't used to RWD, it's just that my Z has more power and less traction than his MX-5 on race tires.
I agree that RWD>FWD, but it's important that new drivers understand the dynamics of any car they drive.
BTW; My first two cars were RWD and I'm "only" 36. (68 Galaxy, and a 67 Chevelle.)
I've been young before....please don't let the next thread you start be titled "Damn tires broke lose, and car hit pole". (note pole can be replaced with any other large object, movable, or immovable).
be careful, drive sanely, and within the speed limit. don't try to drift on the streets, and spinning your tires doesn't make you cool...please remember these rules and you might not wreck it.
EDIT: damn Hraes beat me here.
Hraes, where/how do I get the free buzzard mountain smiley. I've always liked robin.
