New 350z Roadstert a owner ( questions )
Bought a 2005 350z Roadster in Dec 08. Since there was a fair bit of snow on the road at the time I decided to store it for the winter. Just insured the car on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed the weekend drive. What a great car to drive. Couple of quick questions......I tried all weekend to program my Homelink...no success.......is it really that difficult? I have an auto and was noticing that using the manual mode shift is pretty much like an auto, I quess nothing really replaces a 6 speed. I don't have the money right now to pour lot of money into the car , but would it be worth it to buy an intake filter or a K/N filter? The car is black and will be difficult to keep clean any quick tips for those of you with a black car? Lastly, there is a sound coming from behind the driver's seat when driving......it seems like a hard plastic rubbing on plastic sort of sound....anyone experience something similar? It is not a rattle , but more of a rubbing type of sound. I apologise for all the questions, but any input would be appreciated.
P.S I enjoy reading and experiencing the Z ownership from this site....Cheers.

Welcome and congratZ. I've only test driven a few roadsters so not much help with odd noises they make, but post on the Roadster subforum: https://my350z.com/forum/350z-roadster-124/

WELCOME!
The homelink buttons are not hard to program. There should be a pamphlet on how to do it. There are butt loads of info on intake vs drop-in on here, just search. I have no idea what the noise can be and this is a good site on detailing.

Welcome and congrats on the ZR.
Homelink sounds complicated but it's not that tough but you do have to follow the directions. You will have to use the program/learn button on your garage door opener if there is a rolling code.
Black is the best color imho but it is tough to keep clean. That's just how it is. Looks great when clean and sparkly.
I have not experienced the sound you are describing unless it is the seat back rubbing against the plastic behind you.
As for the intake, I have a Nismo CAI that was on my '04.5 ZR before I went FI. It worked great. I will sell it to you for $100 plus shipping (it is pretty light) if you want it.
Enjoy your drives!

1. The homelink was pretty self-explanatory. I think I just pointed my remote at it, held down the button and pressed my remote. I didn't read any instructions, it just worked. You could look in the manual or look for instructions online, or just go to the local dealership for help.
2.The manual mode is fun, but it is not akin to driving stick. I would say it does give you a lot better control over your RPM's especially if you go to the track.
3. You will not likely feel much impact from just a CAI or filter. I would say, start with tires/wheels, which have performance and aesthetic value. You could also do HFC's or exhaust, which will sound more aggressive and possibly a noticeable power boost. Anything done on cars this complex will be mostly for sound/looks because your ECU will adjust for the changes and you won't notice much of a HP boost. The Cams did very well for me, but the labor is a bit high for that mod.
4. Can't help you with the black car question. I have always liked black, but they are a pain. I live in AZ (very dusty), so black is out of the question for me.
5. Any more details on where the sound seems to be coming from? Also, what model do you have (base, enth., touring, etc)? First thing I would check is the plastic part that holds the seatbelt. It kind of swivels a bit. It may be turned so that it rubs on the door panel or on the part behind your seat. If you lean your seat a bit further forward or backward, does the sound go away? Is the sound most noticeable on a bumpy road/going over bumps?
Also, post some pics! We love roadsters!
