Yes, that Z in the picture you’ve posted is very cool and stealthy. From the look of the soft black shade and sheen, this appears to be a a dark gray/black glossy base coat with the Matt effect being caused by using a flattener additive in the urethane clear coat.
Like your father, my dad was a skilled car painter. He ran a little one-man shop where he machined and fabricated parts and components for antique car restorers and Hot Rod builders. I remember him once painting an old school Hot Rod a proper classic matte black. Many paint manufactures offer this style of paint, complete with a special primer and reducer, usually selling it under the name Hot Rod Black. These tend to look more matte black than satin black.
The 350Z taillights add a bold slash of red. This along with the few subtle red highlights you have already added to your wheels would, I think, complement and balance a plain matte black paint color.
