This doesnt seem to be getting anywhere. The general consensus seems to be that you are not getting a good deal and should buy a less expensive Z that does not have a salvage title.

There ya go.

Save the $5-7k that the car is marked up from its actually value, expand your search to a larger city (or state), buy it and drive it home. I don't understand why the car is so expensive where you live; is there really a huge demand with very little supply in Dublin, Ohio???

Maybe you need to spend $500 on a flight a few thousand miles away to save $5k on a car if there aren't any available - with a fair price - locally. Fly to a saturated area, like Florida or California. Drive or ship it home. Enjoy the landscape; save money.

Someone mentioned salvage title, which wasn't you (OP). Please confirm it's not a salvage, because if it is, you need to take 1/2 of all those values.

Thanks for the Advice and opinions. Bottom pine is that the cars you are advising me to buy don't exist here and I don't have the time or inclination to fly to where these bargains exist without trying a car first.

The fact is, there is nothing around here close to this price that isn't older, high miles and a lower model. Anything remotely comparable is $6000 more. If you know of one I missed in my search, let me know.

I know many of you think I'm simply not listening, but I really am. I've been trying to find the bargains but I just can't find them within my comfort zone (e.g., I won't buy one based only on photos). I've spent a lot of time doing reasearch on what's available within a couple hundred miles and I feel like I'm saving at least $6k off the closest comparable model I can find. And I'm comfortable with the car itself and the inspection. If I overpay by $1500 as some have suggested (some have suggested more, but in the threads I read about rebuilt salvage title cars, most of those guys have paid more), so be it. At least I'm comfortable with the car and am buying it from a mechanic who can handle any issue that comes up. Since I plan to make this my DD and use my 91k+ SUV for hauling and winter weather driving, I'll worry about the title issue again when I'm over 100k miles on this machine.

Ok, so it IS a salvage title. KBB puts it at $19k, Edmunds at $14k, but what does he want for the car? That, you haven't said yet; you only commented that you "won't quite get to 1/2" of the KBB value. You said you may overpay by $1500, but $1500 over what? Edmunds? Dealer retail? 1/2 of KBB?

Not sure it matters, but I'll end up paying about 1/2 of KBB.

After more research, I've decided to pick it up today. How about you guys wish me luck and enjoyment with it? I enjoyed the hell out of my '87 Z31. This should be great!

Best of luck today. If you are getting it for half of KBB, then it is a deal... about $9.5k purchase price if my math is correct.

If it is actually half of KBB then you did pretty good.

That's decent. You kept saying "$1500 more than what's fair" which threw me off. Now you just need a Z32 to complete the trio! I own, or have owned, all of them except for a Z31! Enjoy it!

My math is bad. It was over 10k, but I'm very happy. I keep cars for a long time, so in the end I'm not worried about the title.
