Default 350Z Nightmare! To sell or not to sell?

Hey guys,

This is my first post and I am needing your input. I bought a stock, one owner 2005 Base with 80K miles on it about 6 months ago. So far here are the problems:

1st month-Replaced Master and Slave cylinders (could tell there was an issue when I bought the car so that one was a given)

4th month-Replaced the eletronic ignition box that reads the key chip (car would crank sometimes and just turn other times)

6th month/2 weeks ago-CD player stopped working (not yet replaced)

Today-Saw something coming from under hood, looked and heat gauge was maxed, turned car off immediately. Cranked a couple hours after and cranked fine. But that probably means my fan motors went out. Shop did say they seemed weak when I had it in last time.

Don't get me wrong. I love the car but I am a high school teacher and can't keep affording these expensive bills. With the tires I bought last week, this has put me over 2k in 6 months time.

Is this normal? What should I do? Please help. My old Ford truck is not a thrill to drive but it hasn't ever left me stranded like this thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Blake

"Shop did say they seemed weak when I had it in last time."

Sounds like they're trying to keep you in there for all your money.

Could have just been a streak of bad luck or it was beat to **** previously.

Sounds like you should spend more time on the forums?
Did you read the service history from Nissan before you purchased?

Souinds as though there were some issues before you bought the car. Also, the "shop"where you are taking the car may not be the best choice.
It all depends how much you love this car.Are you a real Z guy?
80k on a 05 is not bad miles.I have 74k on my 03,never had ANY problems.
Of course,I maintain my Z.
Some cars have "soul".Others do not.
A Z has soul.A pickup does not.

Your choice...

You have to remember, you bought a car that was 6 years old when you got it. You have no idea how it was maintained before your purchase. Cars start to have problems at that age if they weren't properly maintained. I suspect your Z will be fine once you get your problems fixed.

minor stuff IMO
go through the car properly with a mechanic you trust / mechanic friend if you have one and get everything dealt with that is in need of repair or worn out and might need changing soon enough.

This right here..it may cost more now to survey and repair now but that def beats being stranded and is worth the piece of mind.80K is a lot of miles for ANY car without knowing exactly how it was maintained. One of the reasons I went for a Z under 30k miles...good luck on whatever you choose to do....

In 10 years of working on cars I have never been able to tell fans were "weak" and why wouldn't they inform you of this. How do shops get away with this garbage. Find a new shop.

Sorry to hear that you are having reliability issues with your Z. I would have a full inspection done before you make a decision. Their is a term called "planned obsolescence". It may be a lesson to teach your students.

Best of luck.

Thanks for all of your help! The shop is actually the big Nissan dealer here in town with a decent reputation.

UPDATE: I just replaced the cooling fans tonight...and it still runs hot. The fans come on when I turn on the A/C but I didn't get a chance to check because it started to overheat very quickly once I drove it around the neighborhood. I did let it warm up for 5-10 minutes (without A/C) to check and see if either A) it would start to overheat or B) the fans would kick on. Neither happened so that is when I took it for a spin and it quickly started to overheat.

I was thinking the thermostat but what do you guys think?? I don't want to spend more money if I don't need to.

Thanks again! Please keep the help coming.

Agreed. It was time for some of this stuff to start failing. The items that are failing are not major at all.

Learn how to turn a wrench and you'll by doing DIY in no time.

+1 for searching this forum. There is a ton of knowledge here.

My cooling fans on my 2007Z went out a few weeks ago. Engine was over heating at Idle. Nissan replaced the fans at no charged if the car had under 80,000 miles. Mine has 29,000. Saved me nearly 700.00. The reason I was told Nissan was replacing the fans at no charge in their is a problem with the fans. New updated fans were said to be the replacement. Hope they last longer then the original.
