HR should be able to handle 500+. The VQ37Vhr has several blocks holding 600+ on stock internals (It's the same block) Most of the stuff that works for the 370z can be made to work on the 350z HR engine. So the after market thing isn't really an issue anymore.

That being said. Its a WHOLE lot cheaper to just get a blower for the DE and have it sit at 400HP.

If you plan on putting a real diff in the car, get a base. If you don't plan on getting a real diff, make sure you buy anything but the base. The VSLD is terrible (30% locking, Loves to decouple the second you are off power, can wear out and just stay open) but is SO much better than the open diff in these cars.

Get a DE if you want a cheap beater and you don't care about power that much. Get an HR if it's in your price range.

My advice is to get the newest, best condition version you can get within your price range. I would never suggest anything other than a Track or NISMO version because non-Brembo/Akebonos are trash and VLSD (and the ugly *** non-Track/NISMO wheels). I had some issues with my '03 (mainly tire feathering and a VERY finicky trans) but other than that loved the car (was slow as ***** though). I really want another Z actually. Have missed it since the day I traded it for my Evo (even though the Evo is leaps and bounds better in almost every conceivable way).
