08 STi is good but not good enough. The 08 STi is pretty even with the Nismo Z. I had an outing about a week ago at Buttonwillow race park chasing down a 08 STi and finally passed it. In fact if the rules allow I could have a pass on the STi at the corners. Even at full boil the 08 STi doesn't seem it can pull away. Both of us were in the advanced group. Here is the link to my video. Sorry I could get the sound working.

cool video man.
makes me wonder what was running through the head of that STi owner?!?
i used to own an '04 STi and all i can say is you did a good job on this one. it dosen't matter if you have a boosted car or N/A, it's all up to the person behind the wheel.
good job.

It's probably more of the driver than the car. The 2008 Sti weighs about the same as the 2008 Nismo Z, has the same hp,about 40 ft-lbs more torque and a lot more torque in the lower revs, although the Nismo has slightly larger shoes. Hard to say probably about equal given equally skilled drivers.

That was some great driving on both you guys part, the turbo charged Sti did have some jump and he handled the corners well, I could see several times in the corner that you could have past him, but in the short straights he was able to pull ahead but not away, nice job driving him down. I wish he had a video camera so we could see how close he tagged along.
Made me want to go do find some S-curves to drive through!

I doubt i could do anywhere near as well as either driver but i think its more the driver being good than the sti being slow. Like this guy said, you obviously took advantage of the sti early breaking.
This is very interesting since i just read an article on the 08 sti on msn. They hyped it as easier to drive with 12 hp over the outgoing model and Peak torque at 290 lb-ft available at 4000 rpm. So i guess the sti driver has no excuse of not being able to grab all of the power. Again, just beating that horse, its probably the driver rather than the car.
