So I have a PPW Nismo and the paint of the bumpers (front and rear) dont match the rest of the car. Does anybody else have this problem?

 

yeah, mine has the same color variance. It sucks, but it is common on white cars, and it is only noticeable in certain light at certain angles. I'll get over it.

PPW here, and there is a slight variance...metal and plastic.

 

I didn't want to mention it myself on here until I learned more about it. It is very obvious that it is Not the same paint on the car as the bumpers.
I took it to the dealer and asked them on several occasions and noticed a chip in my emblem.
But, as it turns out the Nismo cars are not complete until after leaving the factory with all the same as a regular 350z. The work is done outside the factory in a Tune shop much like Shelby or Yenko in the U.S. All the Nismo additions are added After the car is built. Therefore they will not blend the paint to the fenders and hood after nissans nice paintwork.
If you repaint the car to look better it may take original value away from it.
My car is a pikes peak white too.

Actually the car never is put together as a 350Z, it stays at the factory, and the frame is removed from the assembly line and the work is done by Autech. Then it's put back on to be completed.

All PPW cars especially will be off slightly. My Acura TL was, our 09 Murano is slightly as well.

 

Anyone else notice that their passanger side fender next to the wheel well is not a flush fit as it is on the driver side.

This is complete OCD on steroids , but run your finger over both sides where the bumber meets the hood/headlight area by the wheel.

I found that the drivers side is a flush match, but the pasangers side has a tiny tiny indent.

 

This was the first night at home in the garage.

Recently purchase NISMO #1071, I also have PPW with mismatched paint! Think Nissan will refund some money??

dave079 is exactly right. All 350Z's have a slight variance in paint on various body panels due to the material. Different materials absorb the paint differently, therefore turning out to be different shades...noticable more on some colors than others. Not even exotics have identical paint on all body panels. Don't be so picky peeps and enjoy the car DRIVING!

 

Exactly reason why when you take your car to the body shop, they will paint match the doors if they are damaged. They will not paint match any plastic/urethane parts.

 

Actually it's got more to do with prep before paint than with the material of the part. A urethane bumper cover won't be primered before paint, like the sheetmetal body panels. They're sprayed with a clear adhesion promoter and then painted. It also has to do with the way a bumper cover is sprayed. Most people paint them on stands, so that the back points upward. Believe it or not light and the position of the piece affect the way the metallics settle. If a person primered the bumper cover and sprayed it positioned how it would be if it were on a car it would be a dead match, given that the person also blended the other panels.

 

Your not supposed to paint over an adhesion promoter. Id be shocked if there was a paint co. out there that would ok this. They want you to seal them with their product so they make more money. I was certified in 4 car lines and 2 different paint lines and all had you seal them with a raw plastic sealer. You are right about the bumper stands. The cover and any part painted off the car should be sprayed as if it was on the car. At my old job every panel was painted off so you got a clean and no paint line job. Plastic will never match metal. You should always blend to unless your good at tinting or have self made formulas on self sprayout cards as did.

 

Don't paint over adhesion promoter? I take it you've never used PPG's one choice system? That's what I always use and as a matter of fact everyone else I know.

I always strip the car of parts as much as I can for paint. And you can get a bumper cover to match......if you primer and seal the cover and blend on the meeting panels.

 

I agree about the blending do doubt. but part of the job is color matching. Insurance companys and warranty work dont always pay to do it. Sometimes you gotta make it match too. My shop would not even paint a rear quarter if it had any glass in it. Once again I agree you gotta blend

No I have not used PPG. I worked at a huge dealer and we had to be certified and ASE to do warranty work. We took ******** test and had to know the rules and regulations of both factory and the paint line itself. They measure the mills when there is a problem. They look for skipped steps and want certain steps and sealer was one in all the lines I used. Nissan would not warranty any 2 stage repaint that did not use hardener in the paint. Which most 2 stage paints never require. I have used a lot of lines mainly Diamont and Standox. My friend uses Chromobase and that line requires a sealer. To be honest its prob the adhesion promotor is possible the one step I have seen skipped the most. If you dont seal the bumpers with a similar color sealer the covers would be dark, its like painting over black

 

Yeah. Personally I don't blend for a bumper cover when I do work, unless the customer requests it. I know it will be off a bit more, but I don't think the extra price is justified in most cases. You're dead on about matching too. My supplier always does a good job, so I guess I'm lucky there.

I don't think I could have done that stuff though. I'm glad I just do business for myself and not through a company shop.

That last sentence of yours is what I was talking about earlier. You should really check out that ONEchoice plastic prep system though. I really like it.
